New Tent
An impulse buy. Gander Mountain Speed Up
Ok, it's not Spuds' Catoma. Not even close. But, it was very affordable(under $100US)and it is a quick set up tent. 7'x7' foot print with a 42" inside height(w/o gear loft). First impressions. Quick set up. The first time took three minutes. Once I got it figured out, it was under two. First time take down was in the neighborhood of five minutes. Subsequent tries were in the two to three minute range. However, none of that includes unpacking and repacking. Figure on adding a couple minutes for each operation. It is very well vented. Includes two gear pockets plus a loft. Not as well made as my Eureka, I found a few shortcuts in the construction of the tent but nothing to stop me from using it. It does breath better than the Eureka ever did. Important when you are stuck inside on a rainy day. Also, with a rainfly, I expect less leakage that the Eureka. The carry bag is a tad long, but just a bit narrower than the width of the saddle bags on the CX. It should bungee on quite easily. I will be using the tent next Saturday. My old Eureka is a sealed tent w/o a fly. The sealer has broken down over the years and I've been needing to reseal each year now. Also showing some wear in the floor. And it is starting to smell. Time to retire it.
