Flat Tire

Got home from a ride last week to find the head of a nail in the tread of my rear tire. I didn't seem to be losing air so I initially thought it might just be in the knob of the tread. When I pulled the nail out it was over an inch long and had punctured the tube.

I picked up a new tube and thought I would tackle replacing it. I also got a pair of tire levers about a foot long. Removing the wheel was pretty easy using a motorcycle jack. One thing to watch for is a washer between the rear disc brake mount and the swing arm. It fell out when I pulled out the axle. It is best to unbolt the brake caliper and set it out of the way before removing the axle bolt. Everything else comes out with the wheel.

The tire levers worked great. For us Canadians, I picked them up at Princess Auto for $5.99 each. The same thing at a motorcycle shop was over $20.00 each.
