Hawk X 250 Throttle Free Play

I've had my 2024 Hawk since January and worked through any number of issues. But I got one I can't beat: the throttle has way too much free play, and the adjusting nut has way too small a thread count to be able to turn it enough to tighten up the free play. Anybody got any advice?

Free Play Ain't Free

Thanks - No math genius here but I thought if my throttle cable was about an inch shorter, or I could install a new hockey puck-looking thing that slots into the throttle, that it would tighten up the free play. Because the adjusting screw is worthless.

I ordered a small kit on eBay that I think has a replacement "hockey-puck." If that actually works (like fits in place), I can shorten it that way. Otherwise, off comes the gas tank and here comes the whole sh*t-show of finding a cable an inch shorter than the factory cable and installing it.

Let's hope for the best. As with everything with the Hawk, its one step forward, two steps back.

On my EFI Hawk DLX, there is the adjuster at the hand lever and also an adjuster at the throttle body. Does the carb version have both?

*EDIT* I'm not sure if the adjuster on the throttle body affects the free play or the throttle plate.

The Hawk X 250 "carb" version does not have an adjustment at the carburetor end. The cable just slots into the slide above the pilot jet (sorry if I'm describing it wrong). The one adjustment at the throttle end, with the adjusting nut and locking nut, has such a short thread count that you really can't adjust its settings to tighten the throttle free play.

Fairly standard issue with the Hawk since the dawn of time. Either a different cable, throttle, or both. I am a fan of the quarter turn throttles that come with a cable, like this one as an example. https://www.amazon.com/KZLM-Throttle...zcF9tdGY&psc=1

add a cable stop clamp on the throttle cable at the throttle valve side.

You got to open the top of the carburetor, remove the throttle valve and cable, have the throttle cable hang out, measure the length you need, and cut off the ball end, and mount the cable stop clamp.
It's better to have a little too much cable play, than cut it just a little too short; or the throttle will always cause high idle.

I'm interested to see if someone can use a ballpen spring, to mount it between the carburetor and the cable (under the rubber cap).
To see if the outside of the throttle cable somewhat can be pushed back by a spring of a specific length, and strong enough, to pick up the slack?

Just thinking out loud this should lead us into a conversation about the difference between FI and carbs and how there connected to the throttle. Assuming most know but maybe not and how the cable is adjusted and why there different…

My 2024 Hawk X has only one adjustment option - the adjusting "nut" at the end of the throttle. And the threads won't let me unscrew it far enough (like an inch) to tighten up the free play. There is no adjustment at the carburetor end. I'm hoping my local True Value Hardware might have a matching adjusting nut that would let me extend it out. Only other option would be to pull the throttle cable out, measure it, and order one an inch shorter to eliminate the free play.

Thanks for the Amazon referral. I wound up going with a company in Florida called Venhill. I sent in my throttle cable after marking the exact spot (it measured 3/4 of an inch too long) and they are designing a custom made cable for me. Cost: $65.00.

Someone mentioned a piece of fuel line between carburetor and throttle line, would help.
