taotao hellcat idle
So i purchased a taotao hellcat and i replaced the carb with another pz25 that wasn't tamper proof because of a float issue. Ive tried adjusting both screws on the carburetor and had slight idle change. idle is stuck somewhere between 5500 and 6000rpm's. i also checked the throttle slide and it wasn't installed upside down. at this point I'm really not sure what is causing the issue other then maybe its jetted different. But any advice would be great.

sounds stupid but, is the slide facing the correct way? I.E. the rounded notch facing the inlet of the carb and not the engine. if thats switched around, it will make a big difference. you should only have a very small gap at the bottom of the slide, anything big will throw the idle off...

9 Times out of 10 it is the throttle cable.

if the slide is all the way down in the carb body, you have a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake. is the gasket on the back side of the carb in place? any open nipples for emmissions stuff on the intake? intake to head gasket in place?

there is a nipple on the side of the carburetor. tried covering it but it didn't change anything. the original wasn't hooked up to anything. as far as a vacuum leak im gonna take some time searching, weather permitting.

While you are tinkering, take some pics for us. Front, back, left, and right. That way we can look at them and see if anything looks out of place.

it has to be the slide not closed like it should be. if it were just a vacuum leak the rpms could be high but not that high. The carb is allowing alot of fuel and air in.
Either the throttle linkage is messed up, or the slide isnt going all the way down. With the filter or airbox off, look into the carb throat to see the slide...the gap at the bottom should be pretty small. |

To big of a jet isn't going to make it idle high. my vote is a vacuum leak. Nipply on side of carb is an overflow for a stuck float, needs to stay unplugged.

did you check the choke to make sure it opens all the way when the choke is off? I don't remember if those carbs have a butterfly choke or a choke circuit, I replaced my carb with a vm20 before I ever rode it. I know you said you checked all the obvious, but i just thought i would throw it out there anyway.
