Beating A Dead Horse
I know this question has come up before somewhere. I've had a lot of bikes and adjusted a lot of valves and they have always been adjusted stone cold yet the Hawk should be adjusted warm. Is that really true?

cold because thats what the gap is for. when the metal heats up and expands there will be no gap. now i suppose you could do it hot and set them at 0.00 but who wants to work on a hot motor.

Mines smoking and running hot after valve job, tried to adjust it like 4 times and im at a loss right now. I broke the nut and bold adjusting the exhaust side. Where can i find a new one, gonna start there and go step by step carefully, any one selling the bolt and nut combo? Going around town to try and match it up with new ones. (bolt that rests with nut on valves) Or possibly Any luck on buying someone's top end that i can just bolt on.. looking to spend less than 150$ Thanks if anyone has anything let me know< Dustin

Try this to find TDC on the compression stroke. Pull the spark plug and set it aside. Open the magneto port and use the kick starter to rotate to the T mark, at the same time your hand is already plugging the spark plug hole. When the T comes around if you don't feel air hissing out the plug hole then your NOT on TDC compression stroke. Turn it 1 more revolution.
This is fool proof. And you won't have set the valves to the wrong cycle. Wiggle the rocker arms when your done, they should have the smallest tink -play. Not 1 tight 1 louse. When the engines humming along you will want a faint ticking sound. You get nervous when you don't hear it a tick anymore.
