As far as heat into the head goes. A better flowing port, in my experience, makes for a cooler head, port, and valve since the burning exhaust gas exits faster.

Defiantly room for improvement. I'm ready to do mine but will be on hold until I get these skid plates and center stands going.

My Goldwing is partly to blame for that. I decided to keep it, so it is getting quite the makeover. I am going to take itdown to the frame, clean it up, paint it, fix and upgrade parts of the motor, rewire it with a motogadget m-unit, and I got my hands on a complete efi setup from a gl1200 to put on it with a microsquirt. I also have a new swing arm to lightly modify for a 150 rear tire, a rear diff, and 2 late model 1000 drive shafts in thr mail with all of that. An extra set of wheels to lace new rims on as well, all with nearly new brake rotors on them. Yeah... I kind of went insane... lol

You do have your hands full. I have way to many irons in the fire as well. Speaking of fires. Saturday I came close to burning my shed down which is about 5 feet from my camper. I was welding right outside my shed door. A spark from welding had flew inside the shed and set a towel on fire which then set a garbage can on fire which worked its way to the work bench and set some plastic bags on fire. To top it off it was windy and was making it spread faster. The fire extinguisher was inside the shed I was able to get around the flames and grab the fire extinguisher and put it out. Came close to losing the shed, camper and everything in the shed including the wife's 4 wheeler. That would of put a damper on the planned camping and trail riding trip we are going on. A new larger shed would of been nice though.

Many of my friends actually comment that I seem to be something akin to a Muse for getting them working on their projects. Truth is, I don't really drink or go to bars, and my body is too messed up to do some sort of sport for a hobby. I'm not really into watching sports on TV. So this is my equivalent of a few beers after work, or fantasy football, etc. I blow all of my extra time and money on my bikes and my truck.

LOL I had a good laugh after. I was like, I hope nobody saw that I'll make damn sure I have the fire extinguisher out side the shed next time I'm welding. Gave me a chance to see if the extinguisher worked. lol

I can relate. I'm not a sports guy and health issues keep me from participating in strenuous activities. It's actually a project I have toyed with and will do some of it, but probably not hotrod the engine. Exhaust and intake mods at most. |

That sounds exactly like my Goldwing. The efi isnt for performance at all. None of the planned engine work is either. Higher output stator, new metal impeller water pump, new timing belts with updated tensioners. It is all in a quest to modernize the bike without really changing its personality.

I managed to get home for a day, but since I don't have my burrs in yet I decided to start with the comvbstion chamber.
I sanded down the machinist ridge around the valve seats, and blended them into the chamber. I also tried to smooth out the other ridges in the chamber. I definitely increased the chamber size a tiny bit, but I will mill the head a little more to compensate. The amount of area opened up around the valve at lower lift and the smoother airflow path should make a good difference. Thise was all by hand, no power tools. Finished with 1500 grit for now. I will wait on the final polish until i get the reat of the head done. The pictures don't do this justice. A lot more was removed than it seems. The first picture shows the ridge around the exhaust valve still in place for comparison.

Nice. Ridges create hot spots that can lead to detonation.

That's one reason why they are gone, but another reason was to unshroud the valves a bit.

Yeah. It's somewhat time consuming. I am going to be a bit more aggressive than Silva was with his port work. His was just a blend and clean up. Call his a stage 1. Mine is looking more like a stage 2.
