PCC motors - good enough
I recently bought a Lifan 200cc engine kit from PCC Motors through ebay. This includes the carb, wiring harness, etc.
The engine shipped quickly and arrived with no issues. I did move the one wire on the engine wire harness per the youtube video. However, there was no spark at the plug. Spent a day or two making sure I hooked everything up the right way. Finally emailed PCC through ebay. They sent out a replacement CDI to fix the problem based on my word alone. The CDI box was different than the one sent with the engine, and it worked perfectly. Pretty pleased with how they handled the situation. Note, I did call them and they have zero technical advice to offer over the phone. Literally, the person who answered said "We don't know, we're just a bunch of girls here." I was confused and asked, "What does your sex have to do with your knowledge?" Seriously, I gave up and just went back to searching for answers on the internet... |

Good to hear! What video are you referring to? I need to watch it. I'm going to put a 200cc Lifan in an old TRX200

Forget the name, but look at my post in the other brands forum. You'll see the wiring.
Basically, there are 5 wires from the engine and 5 wires on the harness. Both in 6-pin plugs. There's a wire from each that doesn't match with its counterpart. Just move that one wire and you're good to go. |

Just a quick question on the lifan 200cc because I am new to it. I replaced the stock oil with 10w-40, and checked the sight glass which read between high and low. I then checked the dip stick and it was way over the markings, so I drained out the oil until it was full according to the dip stick. Now the sight glass reads completely empty even after running the engine at idle for a little. I made sure the engine was completely level, but still the sight glass reads low. So should I go with the dip stick or the sight glass when checking the oil level? I am hesitant to run the engine right now because I don't know if I have too much oil or too little oil.

When I did that and ran the engine it was spitting smoke out the carb and would stall, so I guess that is just some other problem. Maybe because the engine is still new?

with the engine level the oil shouldn't be more than half way. I never trusted the dipsticks.

X3. Sight glass only.

With a system capacity of 1 quart, I would say add a quart, note where it is in the sight glass and find a way to mark that spot. Run the engine to circulate the oil, let it sit. Then, if you want your dip stick to be accurate, take it out, note where the oil stops on said dip stick, and make a mark on it with a knife or hack saw blade so you know that's what full is.
Also, bear in mind that some manufacturers will mark the dipstick to read accurately when the bike is on the side stand. So with the dip stick on the high side of the engine when on the side stand, the oil level on that side will read lower than it would if the bike were level. It may seem silly to do it this way, but bear in mind they may consider it easier for the rider to check their oil out on the road without having to try and hold the bike level, take out a dip stick, wipe it off, insert, and remove again to get an accurate reading. Seems superfluous given it has a sight glass, but handy...if a bit obtuse.

My quad dipstick is light grey in colour, so a Sharpie made an easily-seen full mark on it.
