Even if they did look for a stamp, they wouldn't trust it because people modify their mufflers. They wouldn't look and go, "There's the stamp in the muffler, you're good!" The rod test is the litmus test, here in CA, the most restrictive state in the union. Don't forget, we go up in flames every year during fire season, they're VERY strict on this. Do yourself a favor, take a welding rod or a straightened out coat hanger, ram it up the tail pipe and see if it stops, If it does, you pass.

thats not the catalytic converter its hitting. look behind the heat shield on the header pipe and you should see a swelled sausage pipe. Its in there, a few of us have cut them out and did away with them.

This bike is different. There's no bulge in the head pipe and looking into the outlet I see a very typical honeycomb style catalytic converter that looks to be about the middle of the muffler length in. It has a gap around it, not sure if that gap is blocked further in or if exhaust is allowed to flow around the cat. It'll be interesting to know what all's in there, hopefully someone decides to dissect one. It looks like if the cat were busted out of it the muffler might become a straight through glass pack.
If you're after more power by gutting the header mounted cat it would likely work better if you replaced that section of pipe with the same diameter pipe as the rest of the header rather than just gutting the stuff out of the bulge. When you consider the cutting, gutting, and welding, it's probably less work to just cut it out and replace the pipe section. |

I saw on the owner's group on Facebook that a few people have begun receiving labels, one for the bike and one for the muffler. It didn't sound like they were planning to put them on since they weren't going to ride places where it'd be required, but it sounds like it'll be available to resolve this issue.

that's interesting - are they sending them to everyone or just people who request them?

The people who got them on the Facebook group didn't know why they were receiving stickers, so I'd guess they didn't request them. I could easily be wrong in that interpretation though.

And the guy who informed CSC about the issue and was promised labels hasn't heard a peep.

I got my stickers today. Good to see they kept up the typical Chinese QC standards, each sticker lists a different bike model. I don't know what the model # of this bike is, googling either of the two on the tags comes up with nothing. I'm curious to see if the muffler label holds up to the heat, that would be damn impressive.

Do you own any modern, recent, bikes, besides CB's? A lot of the exhaust pipe and canister laws are rather new.
