Riding To Blackhawk
Taking an extended holiday weekend and riding to the Chief Blackhawk MC Show and Swap In Davenport, IA. Got to the campsite in Rock Island, IL this evening. I've never ridden so long above 70 mph before. Did over 150 miles today and most of it was over 75. The Maggot never missed a beat.
Hitting the show tomorrow and Friday. Watch this space.

Is there much left in it at 75? Could you still accelerate away if needed, or are you topped out? I could do the ton + on my old XS650S, but it was screaming.
Looking forward to pics of the show. You always manage to find interesting stuff. I haven't been to Davenport since '93.

Okay, here we go. I cut the trip short and came home this morning. Too much rain and I covered the entire grounds, twice, yesterday. That's 9.5 miles of walking between 9am and 3pm. CX parts were few and far between. I saw one CX tank but it had been 'customized' with lots o' bondo, so I walked. I picked up a set of Keihen VB carbs that I thought were for the CX but have a smaller body. Probably for a CM400. I'll rebuild them anyway, sell them for a phenomenal fee and probably break even. My best purchase was a petcock straw filter. Mine was missing when I bought the bike and I really couldn't justify $22 when I'm using an inline filter. Anyway, NOS in the package, one hundred pennies. Pics. Nothing of the ride to Rock Island. Just miles of I-88. If you've seen one mile of rural US interstate highway, you've seen 'em all. Loaded and ready to go. That's my parking spot at work. Camp Sokenwet before the rains. Breakfast. Oh, for a windbreak. I was using a Trangia T-28 alky burner for heat. My kids gave me a single cup drip coffee maker and I gave it a shot. Instructions obviously written by some who has never experienced 'Lutheran Church Basement Coffee' before. The coffee was so weak that if I'd had a sugar bowl, it would have walked over to the coffee and kicked the s$*t out it(Paraphrasing Tom Waits) What I saw. Sweet Moto Guzzi 850. Harley Board Track Racer. Nice Old Beemer HRD Got $125,000.00? No? How about $110,000.00? Maine, 1945. Need a Fender? Bikes and Beards. East end of the swap meet after the second downpour. The rain that shut things down for the day. Just before I took this pic, I was holding the door open for Frank Fritz of 'American Pickers'. Time to go inside. I was told that the best day for the show bikes was Saturday, so maybe next year I'll skip Thursday and Friday. Cute little Moto-Scoot. Odd that the stand is on the right side. Excelsior V-Twin. Indian Single. Excelsior Single. Excelsior Four. My vote for best of show. The Beemer behind the Excelsior beat me by 75 miles for 'Farthest Distance'. 225 to 150. All the others were trailered. CB450 Powered Hill Climber. Ducati Mach 1. I learned on its' little brother, the Falcon 50. Same tank and frame. I wonder whose cool looking bike is behind it? Velocette Good Grief This is scary sitting still. Little bit of the trip home today. Breakfast. Oatmeal and coffee. Again. Ominous clouds above the Canyons of Corn along US30. Stopped in Hampshire, IL at the Chick-n-Dip and had some of their delicious broasted chicken for lunch. And still beat the rain home.

I love Cheesy photo day.
Good for you for showing restraint, lest you should allow horsepower to leak out of the side of the engine. No point in finding out what the actual rev limit is. Thanks for the Tom Waits reference. My single favourite performance was "Little Drop of Poison" as an animated character. Google it. I like the Harley board track racer, but I love the Excelsiors. Was the coffee any better the second time around?

Triple the recommended amount of grounds and it becomes almost, but not entirely, like coffee. (paraphrasing Douglas Adams)
I do know where my towel is.

I just got back from a 5-day trip on the Magruder Corridor, but I still don't know how I missed this thread. As always, thanks for posting the great photos, Cheesy.
P.S. 'The Maggot' is looking great.
