My next bike! KTM 530 EXC - Road Legal
I've been riding the KLR650 for a bit now and am not really in love. It's too heavy, too soft and short on power. It also vibrates my hands numb at highway speeds.
After a long review of the available options, I think I have my dream bike in my sights... http://www.ktm.com/530-EXC.71.0.html I will end up doing a few simple mods, like a new seat, back rack, larger tank etc. Now I just need the money to fall from the sky!

That KTM is the Holy Grail of midsize Dualsports .
I can't imagine it would need many mods, the KTM's come with pretty much the best of everything already, and priced to suit 8O . I'm a bit of an 'expert' on the KLR's. I have ridden 5 of them extensively, and currently have 2 in my stable. For what they are, they are one of the best, especially when price is considered. They are like you say though, heavy, soft, and more of a street than a dirt bike. Whereas the vibrate modestly, I would not consider it underpowered. I think the issue is the gearing, and a too high first gear and a too short 5th. This bike, like all bikes, IMHO, needs a six speed.

The KLR650 is a great adventure bike. However, the Killer is a bit heavy for technical, off road riding. I don't know much about the KTM bikes, except they are highly regarded. Please keep us updated regarding your decision.
