Foam pod filter oiling?
I ordered a cheap Amazon foam pod filter, similar to a Uni Filter. It has the really fine inner sponge foam filter, and a coarser textured outer sponge foam sleeve . The sleeve is open on both ends, and therefore doesn't cover the end of the fine foam filter. I didn't order any filter oil, so I oiled the outer sleeve with 30 weight non detergent oil,and squeezed out the excess. I didn't really know what do about the fine inner filter, which has a coil spring in it, so I just rubbed some onto the end that would be exposed. I watched some videos, and evidently the actual foam filter oil is thick, and sticky. I would think that thick oil may be restrictive, but I looked for some foam filter oil at Walmart today, and couldn't find it, but did see some of that thick, and sticky engine oil treatment. I've used that stuff in the past, and it's like syrup. Could this make a good filter oil ?, Or could I mix it with motor oil, and use it ? Do the finer inner sponge foam filter require oiling, or just the outer filter ? Thanks

Just use regular motor oil, the only reason they switched to the sticky oil is because the filters get rinsed out in water, and the sticky stuff is designed to be biodégradable... In other words, don't dump the water out in the drain afterwards.

OK, Thanks. Do I oil the inner filter as well as the outer sleeve?

Do not oil the outer foam sleeve. It's supposed to remain dry so that large debris will not stick to it. Only the inner foam filter should be oiled.
