Boom Vader Cam Timing
Hm. I have a newer boom Vader. It has 1500 miles on it. Overdue for a valve check and adjustment. Noticed the cam was off during that, had to adjust by cam marking not magneto marking. It..rides fine. Curiosity got the better of me, I reset it back to TDC. It rides different. My carb settings are off with the cam in properly. Top end became very rich. Went down from 118 to 112 on my 26 Nibbi. It's riding more normal but not sure if as good as when the cam is off. Are the cams supposed to be off? |

The timing mark on the sprocket does not line up exactly with the mark on the sprocket cover. As long as you're 1 tooth behind, like how you have it in the picture, and the T Mark on the flywheel is lined up, again, just slightly behind the mark on the flywheel cover but more in line then behind, to match the sprocket timing.
Not sure if you loosened or tightened your tappets to get the right clearance but once your valves are nice and tight to spec you should be able to tune the carb properly. Looks like you're doing it right

I am leaning towards that it rides better with the cam off timed. I've adjusted the carb. It consumes less fuel in the top end with the timing right, but there's a loss of about 500 rpm on the top end.
I seriously wonder if they are doing this at the factory on purpose. |
