Taotao Rhino 250cc
Ok folks pulling the trigger on my first atv the TaoTao Rhino 250. So a few questions on out of the crate must haves.
1. New Carb looking at this one. Motorcycle VM26 30mm Carb Carburetor with Air Filter For PZ30 200cc 250cc Mikuni Honda Hawk Go-kart Taotao SunL JCL JetMoto Kazuma Baja Quad ATV Dirt CRF KLX TTR XR Pit Dirt Bike Motocross https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V1H6M37..._xuWREb0QX5H93 2. Which CDI box do I want? 3. Fully assembled, does this mean oil changed already? (No the site doesn’t specify) 4. Fuel filter? Saw this on a YouTube video where the guy said to junk the factory one because it is junk Any other immediate upgrades??? |

Original carb is fine as long as you slot the float bowl screws and remove the pilot screw plug. Air filter is pretty bad. Pod filters work fine.
Original CDI is good too. If you want a spare get one from Partskit. Ive tried a few aftermarket ones that had the wrong advance curve. You may want to change the gear ratio. There are threads on that. A good O ring chain is a useful upgrade. I would change the oil anyway just to be sure. |

In fact I do. They are an M4-.7X12mm. If you're going to notch the factory screws to remove them, just be careful not to get into the float bowl with the cutting wheel or it may break tightening it later.

Congrats! Wait on the synthetic oil until the engine has been broke in.

The new small sprocket was key to making the thing pull “anything”. The stock gearing is way too tall. Everything else including the stock carb was good enough after cracking it open. I did just replace the ignition coil that liked to dead intermittently. And added a 12” LED light bar to the grill WOW IS THAT BRIGHT. Added an Hour meter and a magnetic drain plug for service interval. Fabbed a tow hitch for a dump cart. I also spliced in an LED gear indicator helps the kids understand what gear they’re in.

Thanks everyone, now more questions. I know I read here the sparkplug # but can’t find the thread. Looking at the NGK iridium
Fuel line size? And how many feet do I need? Should I use something like loctite on all the nuts and bolts that I check. How hard is it to upgrade headlights to led? What about adding a light bar is that hard to do? Any other small parts you recommend for swapping out before I get to far into riding it? I have never owned an ATV so am limited in the knowledge need3d I am guessing? Thanks again you all ROCK! |

Why an iridium spark plug? A standard NGK D8EA will last for many hundreds of hours. Mine has nearly 800 hours on the same D8EA plug and it still looks almost new.
Nearly all fasteners on the Rhino are flange head bolts with nylock nuts that won't come loose and require no locktite. No issue with fuel line or filter but the petcock did wear out on mine. $2 from china. Headlights are already LED. Light bar easy to add if wanted. |
