CRV - Chinabike Recovery Vehicle
This was too good for me to pass up. It belonged to a buddy of mine at Church, and he was going to have it scrapped. It's a 1999 GMC Sierra long box single cab, and it has a 4.8 V8 LS motor in it.
The good: New windshield New alternator New heavy duty auxiliary transmission cooler New battery The bad: The driver's seat has a major chunk of foam missing It needs brakes all around, and it has four wheel discs. $$$ The rear bumper is a bit folded in The tailgate has had far too much weight on the right side It's a single cab; I could use an extended cab The paint is ok, but it needs considerable cut-polishing. It's pretty straight and rust-free, and it has good rubber on it. I intend to sell the canopy to raise money for brakes. The canopy is ideal for contractors, since the side window lifts up for easy access to tools, etc. What do you guys think I should ask for the canopy? The motor cleaned up nicely. This shot shows how far out of whack the right side tailgate latch is. The subsequent pics show some progress, but it's still far from perfect. I've got a pretty big to-do list on it, but I'm going to take my time.

That's a nice acquisition. I'm sorry to say I haven't got a clue what the canopy is worth.

That canopy is probably $1500 or more new. The side opening windows add alot of value. I think $500 would be a reasonable start.
Why would he want to scrap that? I would drive it in a heartbeat.

The 4.8 in that model should move it well enough. Regular cab and 2wd. My work truck is a 2013 with the 4.8l, extended cab, and 4x4. Its okay until you hook up a trailer. Better than the dodge 4.7l it replaced.
I have been averaging a combined driving of 17mpg with it though.

The canopy isn't that nice. The clearcoat is badly peeled on top, the screen has a hole in it and the rear window needs new weatherstripping. The neighbour's brother might give me $250.00 for it.
My friend was ready to scrap it for financial reasons. He had just dumped the last of his cash into it, and it still needed brakes. He is about to move to Saskatchewan, and he knew the truck would not pass an out-of-Province inspection. I offered him more than the scrap dealer was going to pay, and he was happy. Forgot to mention that it also has new shocks all around. I cleaned the IAC today, and the idle is nice and smooth now. The AC system needs a charge, and I think one can will do it. Recharge cans are on sale right now for around $7.00. I started the process of working out some scratches on the box side, where some deviant wrote a bad word. I'll follow up with pics of the process.

$250 would be a good price then. Still nicer than many of my past vehicles.
