Registering Lifan 50 mini bike?
Has anyone ever registered for road use a Lifan 50? It says for off road but has all street equipment. lights, horn, mirrors, turn signals, license bracket etc. Possible to register maybe as a moped in NY?

Ask the seller to send you a photo copy of the MSO to see if it says for offroad use only or if it says just motorcycle on it.

The seller insists there's no mso. Says they're just sold on a bill of sale.

Hey onthepipe
Who did you purchase it from? If the original MCO says Off-Road use only you may not be able to register/title it for the street. I'm an American Lifan, Dazon, Redcat, SikkMX, UM, Dealer and every bike or atv I sell comes with an MCO, as here in Ohio we title for On-Road & Off-Road use. The MCO will state Motorcycle or Off-Road use.

Here in michigan every vehicle has to have a title.
I recently bought a 87 250x that I had to have a title for since they could check that if/when I'm stopped out riding, and yes they are out there checking people. It wasnt always like this here but they changed are laws. I wont even look at a vehicle if they dont have a title for it, seems to close to being stolen for me but then there are a lot of lazy people that are also to stupid to just get it put in their name. Here in michigan the "bill of sale" only will cause problems in getting a vehicle registered, it can be done but you got to jump thru some hoops. Good luck. |

The need for an title or registration may not apply, as you may not have to register it. Here in Nevada you do not have to register anything 49cc and under. I own a Tank Mini Custom (49.7cc) but it did come with a Certificate of ownership (looks like an MSO) and thats all thats needed. Dont even have to insure it or wear a helmet (although recommended). You do have to have turn signals and mirrors though. Can drive it on the streets but not on the freeways (duh), anything under 5hp not allowed on freeways. I would say check with your local DMV.
