first bike, 200cc hi-bird enduro

well i finally did it.. after hunting craigslist for months, i purchased my first bike.. 2006 hi bird enduro 200cc with 185 miles on the clock. i have been reading thru this forum for a few days and decided to chime in..

First and foremost, what a site you have put together here.. informative, well thought out, and most importantly gives the newbie a sense that they are welcome and no matter how basic / boneheaded the question is.. that it will be answered and they wont be so ashamed that they never come back...

On to the bike.
as stated 2006, 185 miles. has all of the symptoms of a bike that has been sitting for years. changed the battery, oil, filter, brake fluid and cleaned out the carb as best i could. Its runs, but not very well at idle..
On the recommendation of this site i have removed and then locktite-ed every bolt i could reach.. much quieter..

i have lots and lots of questions since everything i work on has 4 wheels and fuel injection but i wanted to introduce myself first. See you in the forums.

You likely still have a clogged pilot jet. We have many threads here on fixing it.

For $40 or so you can upgrade to a Mikuni. Weldangrind has several threads that address that as well. :wink:

my lawnmower cowers in fear upon hearing that..

i have read the pilot jet cleaning posts, and that will be my next endeavor.. followed by the countershaft sprocket. luckily it seems that my casing is already in 2 pieces so that should be a breeze...

The stock carb will work OK, but a Mikuni will work better and provide a bit more power.

No flame-proof jacket needed for newbies around here. We're a helpful bunch. Perhaps you'll be able to answer four wheel and fuel injection related questions for us.

Here's the carb I've bought (several times): Carburetor Carb ATV Dirt Bike Quad Honda MIKUNI 30mm

I recommend that you don't even try to use it with the stock jets. Switch to a 110 main and a 25 slow jet from your local Yamaha dealer.

Main: N100.604-110
Slow: VM28/486-25
