Trailmaster Taurus 200

Recently inherited a like new, low hrs, less than a year old Trailmaster Taurus 200 and live in a rather hilly area. Luckily I can drop into Low and it climbs fine but is SLOW in Low gear. We find just cruising around the neighborhood streets that in High gear, it just doesn't have the power to make it to the top of the hill without having to stop, drop to low, and then crawl the remaining 20yds to the crest of the hill.

Wondering if there are mods that I could do that could lower the gearing in High. In a traditional motorcycle, one could change out the rear sprocket but I'm lost on what to do with this.

Ideas?

Over a week and not even a question or ideas about this?

Ok.....anyone have any IDEAS on what I should do here? Sell it? Look into trading it in for a larger model? Stay away from this brand altogether and instead look at....?

I would suggest you contact go power sports, they are trail master dealers and their claim to fame is making things go faster.

I had to look this up because I had never heard of this machine. It appears to be a small UTV with a 200cc engine and a dump bed. Also, shaft drive it looks like so altering gearing isn't really an option?
I'm guessing with that small of an engine there isn't really anything you can do to make it better at climbing steep hills other than kicking it into low range like you are doing. If it's that underpowered on hills I would personally look into selling/trading for a larger machine. Neat little buggy though, I like the looks of it!

Had to look it up also. Not sure if you're going to get much more power out of a small 200cc motor in a heavy unit like that. I'm sure it's designed for low gear for most work and high is for cruising flat ground. They also do not appear to be cheap!

You might be able to experiment with the CVT weights to maintain a lower gear ratio when under load. I have no experience in that though.

I put two small electric fans in the vent under the seat to blow cold air through the engine compartment and made a cold air intake for mine. It seems to have a good deal more power and I am able to accelerate up a good size hill in front of my house. Also, you may want to put a couple more psi's in your tires if you're not off roading with it
