TBR7 Venting Oil from Crankcase after oil change
I am the second owner of a 19 TBR7. I have modified the bike with aftermarket carb, removed the air box and added cone foam filter, after market exhaust,
Sprocket change and new chain. After I removed the air box, I added the crankcase vent with a pcv valve and crankcase filter on the end routed to the top of the underside of the seat on the exhaust side. I finally changed the oil to the recommended Rotella 15w-40 at 1,600 miles. Previous owner did change out the shipping oil for 10w-30 when new. I bought the bike with 300 miles on it. I measured and added 1.1L and final oil level after the engine was started was just below the high level mark on the dipstick. My issue is that it's venting a lot of oil and I believe the cause to be the change in oil viscosity and that I added too much oil since it was just before the high mark. Has anybody else experienced this with their bike when using Rotella? Would it be better to just route this over the chain with a solid elbow to lubricate the chain instead of using a filter at the end? |

You didn't add too much, technically. The crankcase ventilation system just lacks any sort of valve or other form of separator to help block the oil that finds its way to the vent tube. Then, the vent tube itself is mostly horizontal, so oil doesn't effectively drain back.
Most people try to solve this by adding just 1 quart of oil, which usually puts the oil around the half to 2/3 way up mark. It is effective and definitely helps, but it is still just a band aid work around.

Hi MN chonda. Reduce the level of the oil in the crank case. Should be 1 quart only. Any more will increase the possibility of blow by into the air box via the vent tube from the crank case. A little is ok
They all do. That's why there is a drain plug at the bottom. Common issue with these motors. Just make sure the dipstick/ sight glass reads ok. You'll be fine. |

RE:: the air box has a drain plug at the bottom. Little rubber cap. For draining. Anything more then a little film at the bottom is acceptable. Your motorcycle is fine
