hawk stock exhaust question
If i unscrew the muffler cap and remove the hitech mesh baffle will i reap any performance benefits beyond the more satisfying sound?
Any jetting change suggestions? Running 115/30 now. thanks |

I couldn't tell any difference other than the sound is better.

Depending on the design of the HAWK exhaust I'm sure a few ponies can be gained depending on what all you change/remove from the restrictive exhaust, just look how nasty and restrictive the Bashan header is and the muffler is no better
First they jam some kind of Coil/Spring/Soda Can inside for your exhaust gasket Then they do a crap job and weld the INSIDE of the header making it at least 2/3rds as restrictive as it should be

Yeah my bike came with most if not all that nonsense, the header also has a small sound dampening Baffle/Restriction built in it shortly after the "Big Egg/Catalytic Converter".
I'm sure after I change out the exhaust and tune my 197cc Bashan properly I could see an extra 5 - 20% (if not a little more) HP and Torque across the entire rev range... but it was extremely restrictive compared to others from the looks of things

anything possible, think wide nonrestrictive stainless tube, smooth inner bore. (give me money, lots of money.) someone will take a poke at it, too many people signed up recently (gear-heads cant resist).

To the best of my knowledge, we don't have dyno numbers on the Hondoid pushrod motor regarding HP gains with mods but they are available for the Q 200 OHC motor. Using that as a comparison,....proper jetting and exhaust mods did give a full 5hp gain from 15 to 20....and for those who have been asking, this is what an FMF Turbine Core 2 sounds like. I will say this...putting a breather, proper jetting and a slip on pipe (no cat) on all of my Hondoid pushrod motors has definitely increased the performance.

nice sound... I think you officially sold me on the TC2 for my tt250 in due time. I wasnt sure how a 2-stroke pipe would sound on a four stroke.
