i went ahead and bought a vm22 26 mm carb. not knowing if it would be too powerful for my kids quad. im not a mechanic,i do construction, so im good with tools. had to snap a collar off the old throttle cover that was holding the cable in. the old cover didnt fit the new carb. oh well. got that done. installed carb but had to cut a few bolts to length and find the right nuts to mount it. luckily i have access to all that. done. carb installed. put a little gas in tank and it starts pouring out of the air intake. ???? now im pissed. i know i didnt put the intake gasket on backwards because the holes dont line up. i did that on his old carb and gas leaked everywhere. i hooked the gas line up to the same tube that the carb came with attached. took apart and checked needle slide was sitting correctly. grrrr it was. without knowing too much i hooked the gasline to the other tube to the right of the one i used. yay!! it worked. but bogged like shit at beginning throttle, ran good on wot. took apart again and saw the needle collar was placed on the middle setting of needle. moved it to the top and that did the trick. what an improvement. i have a 12 tooth front sprocket. with the factory pz22 i didnt notice a huge increase in hill climbing ability etc, just a little improvement. and that brought my top speed down to around 25mph. with this carb i clocked in at 31 today. i also added some cheap but nice mirrors to my boys quad. i think im done upgrading it. ordering myself a trailmaster mb200-2 in a couple weeks. i wont be touchin the quad at all.

Without a clamp to secure that air filter to the carb, you'll have an air leak and the quad may run extra hot, especially since you lowered the needle all the way down by moving the clip to the top notch, leaning it out even further.
