ELECTRIC CHOKE ON GY6 CARB
Does anyone know if you can set the choke on the electric choke ? I would like it to rev the motor up when cold and then kick off when it warms up.... does it work like the ones on a car engine??? other wise I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it does warm up.... better than a cable still .......... gy6 carb.. like ANTHONYS

There is no "setting", it either works, or it doesn't.
I would like it to rev the motor up when cold and then kick off when it warms up You are looking for something with a fast idle cam hooked to the choke. To be truthful I have not seen a motorcycle type carb with this function, fuel injection, yes, but not a motorcycle carb. other wise I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it does warm up It is wintertime, I *think* you could safely block off the carb cooling duct, on the top of your fan housing, remembering to open it up next summer (or the fuel will boil in the float bowl). |

CARB COOLING DUCT
this cooling duct.. is it a hose?? on the carb?? I had thought the electric choke would work like a regular choke.. but I guess you just do not have the cable problem.. thanks for the help.

As I said there really isn't any "fast idle" function, try increasing the idle speed (with the idle stop screw) in the colder weather. The clutch really doesn't "come in" until you hit 1000rpm, so bumping the idle speed a bit won't hurt (setting the idle about 800rpm hot should give you 500-600rpm cold). A "forced air" cooled engine will not behave the same as an "air cooled" engine in the cold, the warm up time is a lot longer, if cold enough it will never "warm up". My wife once drove a Ford Escort 40 miles home with a burst rad hose @ -45F, it didn't overheat, mighty cold driving with no heater, but it didn't hurt the engine. |

Sounds to me like we are "talking" buggy of some sort, unless a Beast has a foot throttle? |

Thanks..........that puts it just a little more expensive than the Baja from Canadian Tire and seems a whole lot more machine.
Yes i am a heinous offtopicer. Sorry 'bout that. The question didn't seem worthy of its own thread though..........waynec |

ELECTRIC CHOKE
Hello , as some of the help have said.. I have this on a 150 cc ZSTAR dune buggy.. same as a KINROAD.. and I guess I will just turn the idle up abit.. it sounds better when it warms up and it idles nice and low.. quiet .. it is too bad that it does not work on a fast idle.. I have many atvs.. as I also sell them.... ZSTAR DEALER... and GIO atvs.. But I have a 400 jianshe.. and a couple of the 200 cc GIO'S and a new 800 cc 3 cylinder KINROAD.. dune buggy .. Spring project to ride.. I may try to hook a little switch and a throttle fast idle to over come the wait time to warm up the carb.. we use a hair dryer for easier starting in the -30 C weather on the 150 cc dune buggy.. alot of nice ideas on the site.. everyone keep up the mods..

This is really not a good idea, while an electric hair drier is not an "open flame", it is the next best thing. When I was but a wee lad my daddy used to use a 100W light bulb on an extension cord under the hood of his car in the winter. This way the first couple of air gulps the engine got on a cold winter morning were pre-heated. Same thing would work on your buggy, be about 100X safer, and maybe you could rig up an old blanket (carefully distant from the hot bulb) to keep the heat in. |
