Hello From Canada eh!
Hello to all form the best coast, the west coast! Don't know what i'm getting myself into here... Private sale, 07 Saga GY-250, still in the box, picking up this weekend, have to assemble myself. I've spoken to a local wrench who has inspected these bikes in the past and without being too forthcoming, he did give me a few points and tips for assembly. Question number one... WHO BUILDS THESE? WHO IS THE MANUFACTURER? My 2nd question is, is assembly out of the box even worth doing or should I just strip it to the frame and start from scratch? :?: Question 3 - Any BC buyers/riders out there have one on the street? :?: I have the full light package and am planning on streeting this beast but i'm wondering about inspections and insurance woes... :?: Anywho, i'm sure i'll be chatting with a few of ya over the next couple of weeks as I bring this project from box to blacktop :!: Thanks all! 8O

Welcome. There's very little on the net about that bike under that name, does it look like this?, perhaps someone can identify it from the photo. Looks like a mean machine:

This is the only pic i've seen so far. Like I said before, the bike is still in the crate, I haven't seen it.

That's the same bike. Even the people that sell it don't give the makers name away...is that shop the only source of service, spares, etc?.

:roll: As far as I know, offroad leisure in Langley is the only supplier around here for this bike. I haven't even been out there yet, but i'm sure i'll be spending some time there in the future... 8O I'm buying this bike privately, and the guy i'm getting it from has never even opened up the crate. He got it on a swap for some work he did for the original owner, whom I have to track down for the original bill of sale... Getting to be quite a hassle... :evil:

I've seen them at the local ex-Lifan dealer. They are a slick looking bike. I'm curious as to whether they have the improved suspension linkage, and whether it's a Zongshen-style 229cc engine or a true 250.

Kawazacky, what do you mean by "improved suspension linkage"? What was in need of improvement? Do you think that this bike is a Lifan? I'm so confused by all this, it's like another language...HAHA

Most of the earlier Chinese bikes, Lifan included, came with a poorly designed rear suspension linkage that cuts down on shock travel. Some of the newer bikes, supposedly the "Kayak 250," have redesigned this suspension linkage.
Is your bike a Lifan? I doubt it, from the ones I've seen here. But I don't think there's too much difference between any of these machines. I'm sure you can mix and match 95% of the parts. |

I don't believe it's a Lifan. The front headlamp plastic looks too different. I guess i'll know more this weekend when I pick it up and "git 'er done!" Actually, i'm thinkin' it's gonna get torn down completely and reassembled with lock washers and locktite. The local wrench here did tell me that the front tire, although marked "DOT" is really NFG... He thinks DOT means something else in Chinese...HA :P I'll swap that out @ the same time I guess...

Obviously everyone with one of these chinabikes has wrenched on them... has anyone run into anything like wierd size tools?
I've got full metric sets (Canada... proudly selling metric hardware since 1976 ) but is there any other oddball tools needed/used to tear into these? Pick 'er up tomorrow... guess what i'll be doing this long weekend !!! (B.C. Day Weekend for those not from B.C.) Got's me an extra day to crank on it!
