What is it?
Can you guess the purpose of the large object shown in the photograph below?

I remember punch cards, key punche machines, sorters , collators, and accounting machines with plug boards that you used to program them.
I had a customer in Houston TX that ran all their jobs on the above equipment while their new IBM360 Model 30 computer sat idle. Took me a while to get them to convert to the mainframe. |

The old IBM cards were color coded to ease program "debugging." For example, each program subroutine could be a different color. Your "data deck" could be a different color, et cetera. Therefore, once you found the syntax error in your program, you could sort through the huge deck of IBM cards more easily, and retract the bad card. Then you would punch a new card, insert it in the correct place, and run your "program" back through the card reader. After waiting a few hours, you would return, read the printout, and start all over again until you got everything perfect. Spud
