Need help. Just pulled off freeway Zongshen ZS250
Hitting 70 on freeway. Bike started... skipping? Felt like something was slipping. Pulled over. Leaking some sort of fluid. Quick ideas? I'm far from both home and my destination

Found it. SAE15W40SF. Going to full her up enough to get home, then I'll worry about the leak

Is that your crankcase vent tube? Looks like it is crimped shut. That would pressurized the crankcase and force oil out. Espicially at freeway speeds.

That is the vent tube, but it's not crimped shut. The hose has a closed portion at the end that is designed to only allow pressure out, without drawing water in. It might be a little tight, so you could remove the closed portion; it's only held on with a small clamp. Just having the hose without the closed portion is fine.
Take the time to examine the hose, and make sure it isn't kinked anywhere. The oil might have been forced out due to too much volume. Take care to not overfill.

BTW, any 15W40 oil will be fine, including diesel oil.

Sorry for the delay in reply. Was out of the country for a time.
Awesome, I'm ordering the oil now. Had a hard time finding the right oil, except the diesel sort, but I'm mildly paranoid. She's been sitting a bit. I had her towed home. I'm not sure if it was overfilled...? When I pulled over and checked the oil levels, they were kind of low, but that was after a ton had leaked out. Reading elsewhere online suggested that maybe she had the wrong kind of oil? I'll check the hose to see if there's any kinks in it. Any suggestions of other things to check for and possible causes? EDIT: I haven't looked at the bike yet to see if it's listed, but any idea how much the ZS 250 GS takes? Thanks a ton guys! |

I think you might have overfilled the motor oil. Your bike should take one quart of motor oil. If you put in more oil than that, it will blow out the crankcase bypass tube.
