Battery won't keep charge
I have a gy-5 and the battery goes dead after a few days when starting it. I think it might be the rectifier... Anyone have any Ideas???

I gave mine a good charge with a charger when it did the same thing. That was over a year ago and I haven't charged it since.
Alot of the stock batteries are no good though. Allen

Re: Battery won't keep charge
Quote:
Buy a good 12v battery charger if you don't have one. Check the voltage on the battery when its dead and after charging overnight. Just to see how much it changes or if it's dead to begin with. Should charge up to 13vdc , then it should stabilize around 12.8vdc Don't charge it at more than 2 amps charge rate overnight, let it slowly charge back up. Pull the spark plug out of the bike. So the Bike will turn over easy, But not start. Get someone to help you if you can, disconnect the rectifier white plug. Use the wiring diagram for Lifan's, see sticky at top of Dual Sport forum. (To do these checks, use the volt meter to check voltages inside the white plugs, in and out) Check to see that you have voltage coming out of the magneto, should be 12vdc at least, I think it will be higher and maybe AC instead of DC, check for both. Check to see if 12vdc is coming out of the rectifier. If you have the time to let the bike be down for 2 or 3 days and don't want to do the checks listed above, just pull the battery out of the bike, charge it up overnight, then let it sit , un-used for 2 or 3 days. If the voltage drops back down to under 12vdc in that time then its the battery. If the battery is 2 or more years old, consider replacing it first as it is the cheaper of the two things to fix.

I have a walmart charger that has the 2amp setting. You don't want to use more than that.
I charged mine overnight once after getting the bike. It was the first day I had it that it wasn't holding a charge. After a good charge it is still going. But others have had bad batteries out of the box too. Allen
