New member ,VRaptor 250
Hi I'm Joe in the uk I have just got a 2014 Skyteam V Raptor 250. With 600 miles only. I started of max 63 mph.
I have done the normal mods Wiring, Exhaust,Carb, Air box gone, k/n filter, 15 tooth front sprocket, slackened valve clearances, it now top 71mph @ 6.500 rpm , ????? Although I have not changed the end can yet as I concerned of noise on a long run, is this the sort of speed I can expect, expecting to do a 500 mile trip A roads & some motaways, no silly answers I am an adventure rider with a 1100 BMW off-road sidecar rig so Europe trips a the normal but like the idea of trying a smaller bike ,but I don't want a VanVan 125 regards This old 68 year old adventurer Joe |

Welcome! Slightly different from the Enduros that most of us run, but the engine is similar to what we have.
From my experience with my much taller and less aerodynamic Hawk 250, regearing the bike will only get you so far. Taking any restriction out of the exhaust, such as the catalyst and a free flowing muffler of some kind, as well as jetting the carb properly to suit the upgrades, will really help wake up the top end a little bit, and the mid range as well. What I would suggest is to also look into a taller rear sprocket (fewer teeth) to help bring the revs down a bit more. On my engine, it seems happiest at or below the same 6500rpm range that you ran into in the higher gears. I changed from a 15/50 that came on my bike to a 17/45, and then a 17/43. With no modifications to the bike, I found that my top speed would never change, but my cruise speed did increase, at least to a point. The 17/43 sprockets were about as tall as I would have gone on an unmodified bike. With those gears my "comfortable" cruise speed went from 45 to 55mph, and my top speed was still 60mph, and 62 if I tucked down a bit (I am rather tall and broad) regardless of the gearing. To clarify, comfortable cruise speed - half to 3/4 throttle to maintain speed. Top Speed - pegged. With those same 17/43 gears, combined with a full exhaust and a pod filter, My cruise speed bumped up to 60mph, with a max speed of 67mph on flat ground and 71 going down a slight hill. If you can open up the exhaust on it, get the carburetor jetting dialed in, and maybe drop down 3 to 5 teeth on the rear sprocket (assuming you can do so), I wouldn't be surprised if you could at least reach a cruise speed of 65mph with a top speed of around 75 (optimistically). Any more than that would be asking an awful lot from a 223cc air cooled single. If you do plan on doing extended highway jaunts like that then I would recommend installing an oil cooler setup. There are a couple of options out there for these CG clone motors, and they are pretty affordable. Since I am not too familiar with your particular bike, I would suggest maybe searching around on the site for other V-raptor threads. I am sure there are at least a couple of them out there. You could also start a post in the Street section to hopefully get better answers to your questions.

out of the stock are 13t at the front. i cannot believe 15t will fit. I tried a 14t and there is not a lot of space. the 71mph as mentioned above seemed to me not measured by GPS. I think, this is read on the odometer? Otherwise 71 mph (measured by GPS) is very good for a bike clarified with 65 mph.
