Koso clone installed
I picked up a Chinese clone of a Koso combo speedo/tach for $40 shipped to replace the units on my Panterra. The old speedo odometer had stopped working a couple of thousand miles ago and the speedo CAL was way off from when I changed from 21" to 18" wheels.
Anyway it came with no instructions and the wiring pin outs were wrong, but I eventually got it up and running. Supposedly you can switch from mph to KPH, but I couldn't make that work. So I fudged the CAL to get it to display correctly. Setting the clock was relatively easy and there should be a way to turn off the displays for fuel and water temp. ETA, here's the ebay listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/191395394751

I am interested, perhaps you could give a few more details about the following.
wiring - what was different from their displayed pinout buttons and menu selection - perhaps you could take a few pic of the screen as the buttons are pressed, held, etc. Also how you adjusted the sensor input. |

I notice it says universal on the listing, how does this mount up to the bike in a way that makes in universal? I am interested in picking one up as well.

it's universal in that you can use it on a 1 thru 4 cyl with wheels from 12" to 21". you have to make your own mounting brackets depending our your particular bike. I did a simple plate with a 15 degree bend in it and attached it to the previous clock mounts on the triple tree.

So, does it display in MPH or KM/H? How did you connect the tach?
Nice looking unit at a decent price.

I was having a bunch of problems last night with it, the display would just go blank and the unit would re-boot itself. this may be caused by something else, because the starter relay died last night as well. I thought I might have damaged the unit at first but it seems OK. I have it rubber mounted due to the vibe issues on these bikes. Where's the best place to get a CG starter relay?

Does the tacho read properly, because I tried one of these a few years back and the tacho would work only up to about 7000 rpm, and then it would drop to 0?

Do you happen to know where that leads? is it inductive?

No that doesn't do anything. I've got it so it reads within 1 MPH of my gps at 60, so I'll call that good enough

I've been trying to find the wiring diagram for the panterra so I can do the same mod on my bike. My cluster isn't working properly and this would be a good solution. how was the wiring. did you straight wire it or did it plug up to the original harness. What was the tach wire color etc?
