Is it a scooter?
I've seen a bike around town (Abbotsford), it's a scooter, though I don't know if you call it a moped or what? It doesn't look like the standard scooter, where you sit with your feet in front... You site more like on a motorcycle, but I'm pretty sure it's a 50cc still... I haven't been able to find much online about where they would come from around here... It looked interested.

I guess you could call that bike either a scooter, or a motorcycle. However, I would personally call it a scooter.

I just don't know what to search for when looking for something like that. It's not that exact setup, but similar, with feet placed on either side of the bike not in front of the seat, and a semi step through frame.

I am not sure either, but it looks more like a scooter. I would say its like a honda cub.

It appears too have a horizontal clone type engine. I wonder if it has gears and auto clutch like a cub.
I could see riding one. Install some knobbies for the gravel roads and I would just go the back way to work.

Definitely not a moped, and at 50cc (with an auto trans) it qualifies as a scooter. I've been thinking about a similar design for some time, and it seems that it has been developed.
The old Honda MB5 was defined as a motorcycle, due to the clutch and gears. In BC, that's the defining point. Neat machine. Perfect for commuting in town.

Though, where they're found in BC I do not know. The one I've seen around town looks kind of neat, and the insurance on a 110 is significantly less then a 125...

Indeed. 111cc is in the same category as 400cc, which is why I'm building a 110cc bike.

They get you guys on the insurance. Most of the bikes I had the insurance was about the same price. 150cc to 750cc.
I have been looking around for a ct90 or similar honda to use for commuting later. My plan is to run knobbies and just take the gravel road over instead of the 60mph highway. Not alot of traffic out here. I could just pull over and let people around too. Would need about 45mph. That would get me to work.

It's definitely a good idea to factor that in. The savings here would be significant.

Likewise with a bigger bike. I'd never buy a Kawasaki 440 (even if it was cheap), because the insurance is a noticeable increase over a 400.

Yes, and when I bought my first bike, I bought an 800 without considering the insurance, so I was in the category above a 750. :S

I think it looks pretty cool. May be a new niche. 8)
I'd call it a scooter. In the event of a tie between scooter and motorcycle I decide by the transmission. Clutch=motorcycle. CVT=scooter. :wink:
