I'm guessing that you found it and re-installed it. Am I right?

I did not find the side cover. I was looking for it but never found it. My fenders are not blue. I just took a photo from giobikes.com. Turbo T your missing the engine side cover one too. If I was to take a photo it would never look as clean as that since my atv is always covered in mud. :P

If I remember correctly (it's been quite a while, like 40+ years) since i owned a Honda 50, the cover you are referring to is threaded into the side cover, (so I would assume it just un-threaded itself and fell out) underneath the cover (which is missing) you see a set screw with a lock nut, this is used to set the auto-clutch. Now, as to that setting, I simply don't remember, but I would assume, too tight (screwed in) and the clutch won't disengage, too loose (screwed out) and the clutch will slip. I'm sure there is a "proper" setting of some type, but, at least here, it is lost in the fog of passing time.

Maybe Turbo T, can you take your engine side cap off to see if it has a bolt in it.

From the fuzzy picture it looks like you may have a bolt in there still. It would only be the cap that fell off. I can't imagine any hardware inside that cover would have come loose. Shine a flashlight in there on yours and see what you see. I doub't it's a gaping hole into the motor, or you'd be spilling oil.
I need to do an oil change on mine this weekend and will have a look if there is still a question in your mind. |
