Grom clone 520 chain conversion
I am currently upgrading my clone to the zs190 and was looking into upgrading the chain to a 520 chain.
However, I could only find the rear sprocket and not the front. Before I make the CAD and get a custom one laser cut, do any of you know if there is already a 520 front sprocket made? In that same line of thought, are any of you interested in a 520 conversion? I plan on getting them laser cut from some higher carbon steel and heat treating them. |

Why would you do that? 428 is even overkill and adds more spinning mass. 420 is fine.
I have a 190 with a grom hub and cush drive and went down to 420 from from 428 sprockets and chain. No problems. Others running the Daytona 212 kit with 4v head are still running the clones stock 428 stuff with a grom hub and it is fine. Last edited by scoot newb; 11-22-2019 at 06:49 PM. Reason: iT I |

Maybe I should go to 428, the 420 chain I put on it stretches too much. Plus i like to go on the size of overkill for reliability

#520 would be a very tight fit, I run a #428 mostly because it doesn't stretch as quickly as a 420 and I'm getting to lazy to be swapping chains all the time

I think a good o-ring #428 ought to deal with anything even a hot Zs190 swap, we talking at the farthest end possible 212cc, you just dont need a 520 for that. Not enough weight or HP / Torque stress to need a 520, but you can put what ever makes you happy on there, but I think anything over #428 is going to cause as many issues as it solves , especially on the front sprocket case clearance .

I didnt think of the clearance issue. It did sound pretty nice to have a chain I never have to adjust.

Most people go 428 as the Grom has aftermarket sprockets that allow for 428.
Don't think the Honda Grom has a 520 sprocket available. But there could be other sprockets that may work with a 520 chain if you really want to go that route. |
