65 MPH top speed at 7200 RPM 39 deg day
Well thought I would get my Bashan Blaze ready for the riding season. Ive been jetting the carb and took it out for a little test ride as it warmed up to 39 deg Fahrenheit today. Right now I have 429 miles on it. I have the after market muffler installed and the new alloy rimed wheels with a new chain. All the smog stuff is removed. I have a Mikuni VM26 installed. Right now I have a 96 main jet installed. I rode the bike from 8500 feet to 7200 and back. The bike warmed up fast had no bog at idle with smooth acceleration all the way up to WOT. In fifth gear WOT was at 7200 RPM where the bike ran out of power and struggled a little to keep up the speed but it did. I could get the bike to over 8000 RPM in all the other gears with no problem. The plug looks good with no soot and there is a nice tan color starting on the insulator. The speedometer read around 72 MPH so my guess is a top speed of around 65 MPH at 7200 RPM? Is that what I should expect from this bike? Should it be able to make it to 8000+ RPM in fifth gear up here at this stage in its brake in or ever? What are your bikes doing for top cruising speed and top RPM? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I have a feeling my bike will do a little better after it brakes in a little more.

Anyone else want to chime in with your top cruising speed on one of our China bikes?

Both my Lifan 200 and Zongshen (Roketa) 200 will do a bit over 60 mph verified by GPS. Wide open with no wind at low elevation both will top out right around 65 mph. Both are CG engines, a 163FML and a 167FML.

Very impressive for a 200! My Xf250 tops out at about 75 @ 7,500 rpms.

Now that I have an accurate Speedometer and Tach Thanks to mjstef I was able to go out yesterday and run the snot out of it. It was 74* and I'm at 10' above sea level. Ran through all the gears to 8500 rpms and didn't hit any rev limiter. 5th gear toped out at 73mph@ 8100rpm+-. I'm not touching anything, I think I got it dial in perfect. This is on a re-jetted stock carburetor and gutted stock exhaust. I did some calculation based on the 167fmm gear specification (Primary: 3.333; first gear: 2.909,Second gear: 1.867; third gear: 1.389,Fourth gear: 1.150; fifth gear: 0.9545)and 2.67 (15/40) for the final gear ratio. ) it's pretty much dead on. Don't ask me to calculate yours I think I sprain my brain figuring it all out.

Pretty impressive results Jerry! As soon as I get my new instrument cluster installed I'll post my top speed. I would be happy if it's at least 65mph.

the TT250 with a 229cc CG motor (167FMM), has a torque peak of 5500 RPM and a horsepower peak of 7000 RPM. I have seen 8200 RPM in top gear when I had the stock gearing (17/50). These bikes are geared way, way to short, but if you gear them up proper, 1st gear ends up too tall. They really need a wide ratio transmission or a 6 speed.
what I have noticed is gearing taller doesn't really add to your top speed, the top speed is about the same with a 46 rear sprocket, what changes is the RPM you are doing at that top speed. That is because the power curve is so flat up top... |

My XT200GY (counter-balanced 163FML with 17/46 sprockets) will do 61mph (GPS) in a tuck with a *LONG* flat road... but more realistically will top out at ~56mph in normal riding.
Cheers!

RPMs are wrong in the first pic (should be just over 8,000, not 13,000+), but top speed of 82.6 Miles Per Hour was verified with a Garmin GPS (showed 83 mph) and a 2009 Subaru follow car... that Bashan WILL has a Lifan 197cc engine and 17t front 39t rear sprockets... 120lb rider soaking wet complete with baggy clothes and riding gear creating huge amounts of aerodynamic issues might push a hair shy of 90 if I get some proper/smooooooth riding gear
And I also found this pic on my phone, it's from a while back... I think it was back when I had a 45t or 47t rear sprocket on the beast (trying a 43t right now) to do the 12,000+ foot CO Mountain climb ... RPMs are wrong again, those are showing close to maxed out from a lower gear... I was probably being followed by some 5-0 that day and highway speeds was posted at 65 no top speed runs that day with the 64.9 mph showing (I was as close to the speed limit as I could get it Officer!)... I think top speed with that sprocket set up will be just over 72 with the RPMs screaming

Results are in......thanks to mjstef I received my new instrument cluster today and got it installed. Took the Hawk for a test spin and it showed 70mph at 8100 rpm. I was pleasantly surprised with that.
