Hehe "PZ30 Accelerator Pump Carburetor"

Well, my carb showed up for my Hawk...

Oh well, it's going straight on the next one.

Anyway, I wouldn't have said a word about it, but I seem to have gotten a very confused carburetor.

It has the bore offset and bowl pattern of a Keihin. It has the name of Mikuni.

When I get a chance I am going to take the bowl off just to see what kind of jets are in it lol.

It doesn't matter what name it has stamped on it. As long as it performs is all that matters.
So, when is the delivery date on the Hawk?

It looks a lot like a Keihin PD.

Most likely 7 days from today if all goes well.

So, inside the bowl it's basically the stock Hawk carburetor, right down to the unique goofy pilot jet . The pilot in this carb is stamped K36 vs. the stock Hawk K40A. The stock Hawk pilot jet does screw right in, so at least you have a couple of sizes to work with if you have a Hawk.

Here is where it gets rather entertaining. Needle jet - also a match to the stock carb. Needle has a slightly more aggressive taper thank the stock Hawk carb, making it more similar to the VM26, although I don't have that laying around to compare it to.

The main jet. It's a Mikuni thread. I tried both types and the Mikuni N100.604 threaded right in smooth as silk. Obviously both can work.

One nice thing about this carb is the idle mixture screw, while still located in the same annoying spot, is actually the longer version that sticks out of the bottom and has a small knurled thumb screw feature to it, so that should make it a tiny bit easier to adjust on the bike.

I sure did get one odd ball carburetor, which is fitting for me. It would have been nice to get one that took standard pilot jets. I am sure there are some out there.

On the plus side, the quarter turn throttle housing that came with the carburetor is actually very sturdy and thick aluminum. The throttle tube is also nice and thick feeling, which is a nice upgrade from the last one I bought individually - and broke trying to tighten the screws.

I think I will start off with the stock 40 pilot since it is a known quantity once I get around to installing it, although I have a suspicion that the 36 will work better thanks to that more aggressive needle taper.

Dan, you can use a piece of fuel line on the idle mixture screw to adjust it while on the bike. I've done this on other carbs on bikes and atv's. Works like a charm.

Yeah, I remember reading that trick from another post. It will definitely be employed.

I unwrapped mine and started to assemble it to put on the Chonda bike. Mine doesn't say Mikuni on it - some other brand. I'll look at it closer tonight.

The cnc throttle tube is an impressive piece! I quite like it.

If you get a chance, check and see what type of pilot jet it has. It would be nice to find a version that doesn't have that goofy pilot jet.

I definitely agree on that throttle housing/tube. Honestly the most impressive part of the whole setup lol.

Is it the one that Jerry linked?

I don't like that I can't change the slow jet, even though I know I could drill one of them out, it's the lack of options that irritates me. I might keep this one for parts and order another one. Never hurts to have spare parts, or I could always pass on the extra throttle housing and cable to somebody else cheap.

P.S. Remove the spring from behind the choke lever. That will let it stay closed.

Well it looks like I will be OK to remove the cat.

(Although the State of Texas does not require an emissions test on motorcycles, an annual safety inspection is required prior to a motorcycle's registration renewal)

Now I can put my money toward this carb possibly, hopefully someone will get one up and running soon and give us some feedback.

Just to clarify - the main jet in the You-All can be changed, but it does not take the Keihin PD style jets.
