Lube da chain
Easy way to lube chain. Leave kick stand down and pick up on back while pushing forward. slide 2by4 or stick under swing arm. Lift is only 25 lbs or so. Spin wheel while spraying. it balances on the front wheel and kick stand fairly easily.

I've done that a few times except I had a 2x4 with a V notch and put it under the axle bolt. That's why I made the center stand.

Great idea and thanks for sharing! I love the ammo can panniers.
Does anyone use gear oil instead of chain wax? I just put on a new RK racing chain and the maintenance instructions say to clean and lube every 200 miles using gear oil(80w-90 I think). I always use spray wax buy hate the mess I end up making with it. Also, how do you know when a sprocket is worn and needs replacing? My new chain is noisy and need adjusting more than I though it would. Would this be caused by a worn sprocket? The front sprocket has about 8,000 miles on it and looks ok. I have 14,000 miles on my original rear sprocket and it doesn't appear worn on the sides but maybe some wear between the teeth?

It is a dirt only bike...dirt/dust/mud/river crossing... all I do is water blast it when I clean the bike . adjust it if needed & spray it with castrol chain lube.. the XT660 I get 20,000km from chain & sprockets... I use RK chains & either Yamaha or JT sprockets... I usaly go though 2 front sprocket to a rear... ..

This is all really helpful. Looking at all of this I think my sprockets are fine and my chain is over tightened causing excessive noise. I estimate there is a hair under 1/2" of play in the chain right; I checked and adjusted this morning before riding and I think the chain became overly tight when I torqued the axle nut down.
