Hawk 250 Starter Reduction Gear Pin - tab in or out?
For the life of me, I can't recall what way the tab on the starter reduction gear pin goes - does it go in or out towards the cover?

the tab by its supposed intention is to go in first case side so it prevents the chance of the shims falling down when pulling out the pin...however in my Used CG125 engine the previous user failed to seat the tab correctly and cranked down the cover onto the tab which damage the case.
replacment reduction gear kits come with pins without the tab...So its only purpose is to prevent the shims slipping off... in other words it doesn't really matter which way it goes...either makes sure its properly seated/remove the tab/dont drop shims into case... |

Pin in ,out or off
After i found this surprise in my used CG125 I made an effort to mod the cover to stop the tab possible falling off if installed on the outer side...
But in the end I opted to install a pin with no tab... 1 of the photos shows the inner case damage from the tab getting gorilla fisted into the case and minor cracking it... |

The pin is supposed to also serve as an anti-rotation locator for the shaft the gear rides on so it doesn't spin in place. It should fit right into the slot of the case.
