Saga 250 Mods
So I had some time on my hands this weekend and decided to do some work on the Saga.
This is how she sits with my cheap scooter cover Strip off the plastics, the stock intake mmm must have ordered the wrong jets, looks like my carb is a Japanese Keihin PZ30 copy, not a Mikuni. The mains swapped over (running a 115 now) but I will have to order the correct pilot. New intake setup, with and ABS tube to locate the filter Filter is shielded from debris Also fitted my FMF, rubber mounted hanger. Made a slip fit flange from and old scooter exhaust with a spring to keep it snug. Hangs nice It sounds great   pretty loud but not obnoxious. Went for a quick ride and have definitely picked up some power. Jetting is close but I only did a short ride in the rain today. Need to pick up a proper pilot as it's running lean right off idol, may try dropping the clip on the needle to see if that helps. Will have to work on getting some video so you can hear this beastie, very aggressive! |

Very clean professional work. Especially considering you were working outside, in a sprinkle!
BTW you live in one of the most beautiful cities I've visited.

Nice work. It looks like you heat-formed the ABS around the shock. Did you fabricate the air filter shield?

Thanks guys. The intake tube is actually part of a snorkel from an old car airbox, the filter came with the sheild.
I'm going to wrap the exhaust when my fiberglass wrap gets here. Also have an integrated LED tail light and a new Dual H3 headlight on the way. |

Nice! I snorkelled the one on my Hondoid 200 after the Uni on the Hensim went up in flames after a backfire.
How about a pic of the whole bike? Is that a pushrod Honda clone motor? (163FML) I'm playing with the jetting on mine and need to fatten it up after the breather and FMF TCII install but don't want to go overboard and make it to fat.

Here is the best pic I have of the whole bike.

I'd love to get one of those for Son of Weldangrind's XR. Is yours a five speed?

I forgot the website but somewhere I saw one place with them. They were 5 speeds as I recall. About $550.

Did some more work yesterday. My fiberglass wrap came in so I wrapped my head pipe.
[img] [/img] Did some plug chops and the 115 main seems to be spot on, did my regular commute to the gym last night and I have definitely picked up some power. There are a few hills where it would kind of struggle to maintain 90kmh, I can now blast up at 100+ no problem. I may even be able to add a tooth up front or drop a couple out back. Also start and idle were greatly improved. This bike was very cold blooded due to the lean jetting, even though I still need a bigger pilot it will warm up in 30 seconds or so and idle at 1500k now. Also got my front tire delivered today it a Bridgestone BattleWing that was cheap as it was a takeoff from a BMW. Also got a call that my rear Kenda K761 is in so I have to go and pick that up (and a new set of spoons as I cant seem to find mine). Some some colder weather/snow predicted for the next couple of weeks so I have a while to get everything sorted to my liking. It's going to be a nice little runaround for the summer! |

You do good clean professional looking work. Very percise. Glad you got it dialed. It sure is going to take a turn for the colder this weekend in the Pacific Northwest, but I bet you'll still have some decent riding weather after that.

You do very nice work, Rage. I'm glad you got your carburetor jetted properly.

The sun came out and the snow melted today, so I pulled the bike out of my shed to go for a quick run. Snapped a few (crappy IPhone) pics when I got back to show some of the stuff I have been up to.
New LED tail light with integrated signals and new Kenda tire. Made my own plate mount, probably lost about 5lbs from the rear end. Cut the front fender down, switched to dual 55w H3 projectors and threw a Battlewing on the front. switched to a better coil that has stopped it from missing, and painted the number plates black. Also went up a couple of sizes on the pilot which has helped. Need some more nice days so I can get my tires scrubbed in! Also need to aim the headlight and see how it works. |
