Another playtoy project:
Picked this '82 Honda ATC200 up today for a whopping $200! It came with the clarke tank, and a spare set of rear plastics. It smokes like a freight train and has a nasty top end knock (timing chain, wrist pin or bad piston) but it does run. I'm gonna hunt down a rebuild kit and bring her back to its former glory! It's for the wife.

Ohh yeah,. I remember those,. I had one similar to yours, Honda called it Big Red
I think I put just as many miles on it upside down as I did on it's wheels,. But true to Honda's claim it will float. |

Yea it did have racks on the front and back but I don't remember if it had any kind of a suspension on the front end,.
Back then I was more worried about how fast I could go or what stupid stunt I could attempt next. I had more Ba--s than brains back then,. |

Nice find. Tank alone is worth $200. I just sold my 83 200x A few months back. I had it for over 25 years. I was in the process of restoring it. Engine was in great shape and ran perfect. It was the rest of the parts that were a pain to find and when I did they wanted way to much for them. Tank, plastic and tires was all it really needed but that would of cost me more than I paid for the bike. I ended up selling it to a guy that was restoring the same bike and he needed a motor and suspension parts. He offered me $800 so I took it and used that to buy my Hawk. Ebay has a lot of engine parts. You just have keep checking everyday and you find what you need.

any chance a hawk motor would fit it? seems like just swapping a motor would be easier than trying to rebuild.

The engine swap would depend on if it's chain or shaft drive ,and reverse if you want or need it .The kickstarter will no longer be of use as the Honda three wheelers that did have them the starter went foreword .

The countershaft sprocket was really weird on the chain drive ATC's, and I don't think the spline is the same. A CG motor would physically bolt in (as would an XR200 motor), but I think you'd need to split the case and change the countershaft. The kicker wouldn't likely clear the frame, which is why they used a pull start. The electric start version was '83, and the only year to have both chain drive and electric start. A motor from an '83 with electric start would be the best option.
