Help with ZS172FMM-3A Engine Measurements
I've been thinking of getting a ZS172FMM-3A engine to stick in my bike which uses a CG125 frame. I know the bottom mounts will be fine and the top may need a custom mount but I'm unsure if the exhaust will be blocked or if the drive sprocket will be stuck out too far.
Also I realise it doesn't have a balance shaft so I'm just wondering how bad the vibrations are. Niche questions so any light shedding will be appreciated. |

Welcome to the Forum! There's an older page on this engine, and it looks like someone did a write-up on it. I haven't dug into anything on the link, but it might be a good place to start. Here's the link to the other page:

sprocket position should be fine. exhaust should still clear a center front frame post.
The biggest issue with the 172fmm is how wide the cylinder head/cam cover is and tank clearances. You might also have rear brake lever and foot peg width to engine case dimensions to adjust. |

Regarding vibration, If you run high rpm highway use, it might be annoying, but otherwise, the "-3A" is an excellent engine. I don't even perceive vibrations from the motor in my off road jaunts. Getting there, I just take it easy, and I geared down, not up, so I don't go very fast
But the engine starts EASY, has NICE low/midrange torque. Mine is mounted in the Templar X (1st version, 2022), with an enduro style frame. Just Tune the carb and it will make you happy. On the gas tank clearance, you can add a grommet or otherwise shim both front and rear to lift it up, if needed.

Might aswell link the PR250 too, if the frame can clear the counterbalance case protrusion then it might be viable...same price...
looking at a cg125 frame i'd hazard a guess that both engines could squeeze in give or take some custom fab but no significant frame alterations... https://aj1moto.com/en-au/products/z...49fb5289&_ss=r |
