Hawk 250 Stalls out when stopping...
I have adjusted the valves. Changed the oil.
Going down the road the bike feels like its pushed back against itself then eventually looses power & stalls out. It takes a few minutes before i am able to get it to restart. This has recently just started happening. Any ideas??? |

Sounds like it is almost starving for fuel. Could be vapor lock. I ran into an issue with my Hawk boiling the fuel in the bowl causing something similar. The cat in the exhaust was mainly to blame for that.
Another semi common issue is the gas cap not venting peoperly, and it essentially vacuum locks the fuel. Next time it happens, open the gas cap. Listen for a vacuum hiss and/or try to start the bike and see if it comes back to life.

I had the same problem with stalling after I filled the tank up. I read in the manual that you are not supposed to "top off" the tank, but only fill to the filler neck because the cap will not vent.

Tonight it stalled out about every 1/4 to 1/2 mile. I even took the cap off to see if that made a difference. It did not. The choke is in the down position.

Remove the fuel line at the petcock and check if the fuel is flowing good. If it is then reconnect the fuel line and open the drain on the bottom of the bowl to see if the fuel flows. If not then remove the bowl on the carb to make sure the float is moving freely. Check that the float is set correctly. May need to check the valves again. Set them when it engine is cold after setting over night.

The good news is that coils and CDI's are cheap and plentiful. It would be a good idea to buy one of each for troubleshooting purposes.
I had a friend bring a quad over (with the same CG motor that many of us have in a dual sport bikes) because it wouldn't run properly. I traced the problem to a faulty coil, so I popped a new spare in that I had. It still wouldn't run properly, so I checked the new coil; the coil was good but the wire was bad. I used the old wire with the new coil and it fired right up. Such is life with China rides.
