I'm currently considering a few used bikes like the Versys 300 and NC700X. I'm also considering the Himalayan 450 and CFM 450MT.Unfortunately being new models it will be years before I can get them for $2000 off like the Adventura. The KLR650 is a bit too dirt focused for me. Thanks for your advice.
I think you're in the right spot then. The only other thing I could think would be a used versys or vstrom. New is always nice though!

All of these adventure tour bikes will be a handful offroad (maybe the KTM 390 is an exception). As I said, the OTD price you are looking at is pretty nice.
I'm not too worried about the 17" front wheel but it's been a long time since I rode anything smaller than a 21" wheel in loose gravel or sand. That was my 71 Mini Enduro 60. My intention is to fit the 650 with Shinko 705s.

I've ruled out the NC700X due to it's 1/2 Fit car engine with it's 6500rpm redline. Also off the list is the Versys 300, Himalayan/Scram 411 and others. I want to be able to ride the highways at 75mph.

I can get a 2017 Versys 650 with 13k miles or a new CFmoto 650 adv with 2 yr warranty for the same money. Not a hard choice really.

Thanks friend. I think I'm going with the CFM 650 adv. despite it's limited off road ability. I'm probably going to keep the Templar for that. The only used Vstrom in my area is 10 years old with 25k miles and the only Versys is a 2017 with 13k miles. Both cost about the same as a new 650 adv.
