High exhaust temp

My exhaust temp is reading well over 250 degrees. It has header paint on it. Any ideas to cool it down? Thanks

I would agree. I think it's paramount to keep an eye on the plug.

Here is my plug.

It looks healthy enough; maybe even a tad on the rich side. What matters is what the engine was doing when you cut power. Was it idling, or did you do a plug chop?

I wouldn't worry too much about your exhaust temps, most motocross bikes will glow the beginning of the header when idling in place for a while

....and cats don't help the heat if you have one in your pipe. They're made to cook. That's the one bad thing about removing the air injector tube without removing your cat along with it. The cat doesn't get as hot without a shot of fresh air when needed under full throttle or heavy load conditions, so it starts to collect gunk after a while.

On the flip-side of that, if you cut out the cat and leave the air injector tube, be ready to replace your muffler packing far sooner than normal because you're tossing a shot of fresh air on your packing instead of the cat, under heavy load conditions. Picture a blow dryer on a charcoal briquet.

The coolest possible exhaust is one with both removed and the port blocked, with a free breathing muffler.

Also, if you remove the cat and not the air injector tube, expect a big BANG on deceleration. Great fun!

She is as simple as it'll go. K&N air filter , hollowed out cat. She got a new plug. We'll see what this one looks like.
