Sukida GY125 owner

Hey peeps, jus a post to say hi.

I own a 2007 Sukida SK125GY-A Its only done 182 miles from new. Bought it from ebay locally, Needs a bit of TLC as was left in a cold wet garden for a year or so. The paint is flaking. the forks are foobar. (Rusted) needs a small repaint also

Iam strippin down to give it some loving. Added bonus is it havin upgrades too. That reminds me. H4 conversion any one? and a better lift cam?

engine is the GY125 Over head valve. I owned a old 1977 CB125 years ago and that thing standard was 14.6BHP.. fingers crossd.. the chineese motor will go past this..

Also.. ahhem.. Stage 3 Porting on the cylinder head and the racing CDI will be done also. Iam going to make a 4T 125cc tarmac ripper..lol

Other intensions are better end can, racing coil and carb upgrade.

Any one got any data on a say 28/30mm carb/jets would be help full.

My history i owned a DTR125 for quite a while, sold it this summer. I was rebuilding the engine quite often. Done like 9K miles in 12 months.

Main reason for the 4T engine is reliable power. so where better than a chineese bike. Pahhh (11BHP..8.2KW.. not likley sir)... hehehehe

pics to follow!

Weldangrind 09-22-2010 11:34 AM

Welcome to the forums!

I'm looking forward to watching your progress on this 125. What's an H4 conversion?

My guess is that you'll eclispe the 15bhp mark.

Cheers!

satelliteone 09-22-2010 12:05 PM

thanks for the reply weld..15 you rekon..I hoping to about 16-18 ish, some old tricks up my sleve..:) all down to flow, ignition timing, and compression. 190Psi is where i want to be.

I port some big 4T motors over the years one was quite special. A VW 1.8L head from a golf GTi, standard 112BHP, on the rollers after stage 3, 139BHP.. and with the same cam!.. yup.. same cam.

If i can get the compression up a bit, looking at the head, that might be a bit of a problem,.. you never know.

anyways.. here are some pix of today..

i forgot to mention.. the H4 conversion. The bike have 35W headlamps.. Some weird phillps bulbs. Bin that!

Looking for a H4 Bulb conversion is i can..

Weldangrind 09-22-2010 12:19 PM

That's funny! The only thing I could think of was bulbs when you said H4, but I presumed you were talking about engine mods.

I'm pretty sure that you'll go beyond 15bhp; just not sure by how much. I agree that compression and timing are key. I wonder if you could find a Wiseco piston for your bore size that would bump compression into the tens.

Of course, there's always more cubes. :D A 200 pushrod or OHC Honda clone would be a bolt-in. IIRC, the Honda 185 and 200 share the same bottom end, which means that you'd be a jug, piston and head away from 200 cc, if you could find a cheap 185 donor.

BTW, I love the old R/S/J VW's. Have you ever used a 5-cyl intake from an Audi on a 1.8? You have to lop off one runner and weld it up, but they flow some serious air.

SpudRider 09-22-2010 01:05 PM

Welcome to these forums, and thank you for posting the good photos! :) If you search the Dual Sport Forum, you will find several threads on H4 headlight conversions. ;) I performed an H4 headlight conversion, but my bike's headlight is different from yours. However, if you read the following thread, you might find a link to the information you seek. ;)

Welcome.

Looks like a fun project! I will enjoy watching and seeing pictures of your head ported and polished. :)

Great project and thank you for the pictures!

satelliteone 09-23-2010 11:03 AM

spud , turbo and doc.. thanks for the nice replies.

As to the light conversion... ahhh.. i have a plastic light. darn..back to the drawing board.

doc... am a pic hore when it comes to bike renovation, lol..

here is a couple of today..

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4312.jpg

re-painted the swing arm. Was a tad rusty

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4311.jpg

gave the back wheel a clean. then hit with clear lacquer to prevent the rim from rusting further.

I have seen the pistons on ebay weld. I can get rebored local to me very cheeepo, just need a carb to go with it. now thats a thought.. so i persume the heads are the same?. same valves?.

i have noticed the inlet valve in the combustion chamber a little on the tight side 125cc , meaning room in the squish area. Any mods done here are going to be quite hard to do. Esp skimming the head. I think in reflection
the 200CC motor is probally the better engine to mod.

Iam going to sink the valves in a little tighter into the seats, as they are not very flush , see if i can gain some more room. the rocker arms can take the slack up.. need to get a nice 0.5mm off the head. or even better 1mm

from the specs i get off the net, 9.0:1 like to be up at 10.0:1 or close.

Nice save!

You know there is an XR125 in my area in good running condition for $300 I've been thinking about this kinda inspires me....

acydrx 09-23-2010 12:27 PM

Wow. That is indeed a nice save. You possess some rather impressive restoration skills. Or at least the follow-through to fully restore an item. I have never really wanted to restore anything, but the before and after pictures make me begin to re-think my stance. ;)

Welcome to the boards. I'm sure there will be plenty of information for you. :D

ell doc!..an XT125 nice. vintage material. I say yes!. simple bikes to restore. very mucho like the CB125 design. I have lots of info on the electrics.. diagams n stuff. Thats if your a bit on the loose end of electron flow.

All your going to need is time!. patience.

A good bike breakers or even the ebay parts department. Knowing a bit about paints, a nice garage with tools. and lots of elbow grease.

My friend is a 600W mains drill called "edna" and her friends wire wheels. Plenty of lareg plastic containers. called the office. As ist old parts in.. and parts out, for renovation. A good vice and eye protection.

The idea is to get it stipped down to the fame only, then work your way up, renewing and or painting existing parts. One by one. Even repairs to the loom.

Once you strip the bike down, you will see how easy it is. and not forgetting. how to put it back toghter. I say Pictures!...lol

good luck doc. i hope you do. and dont set a time to finish chap.. just say when its done. Nothing better! in life to stand back and say. I done that!..:)

And thanks also acydrx. stance ehhh..lol.. as echoed. Go on. join the club! I just do it to prove to my self iam still alive..

Nice meeting you all.. hope all my pic`s speak a thousand words.

satelliteone 09-23-2010 01:10 PM

lol. Doc a tap on your hands..my missus love me to bits. she said to me once ya know. i never met a more intresting bloke.

PS, she went shopping and the bike came into the kitchen..

satelliteone 09-23-2010 01:21 PM

spud iam not happy with the plastic lens, got an idea tho. called heatsink tech.. known as alloy tape. Got to keep the temp down from the bulb... Really the only way to go is HID.. Unless i can find a lamp that will fit perfect in the plastic front, and used the glass, and metal lens. Iam going to move onto that after the engine mods.. also another mod iam going to do is the LED rear tail light. Tail tidy experiment.

wow doc.. i like alot..nice garage!.. hat off to you, a credit. Love the bikes. some great bits of kit.

Did you do the re-paint your self?

I did a 2K paint job on my bug, it was the biggest thing i`ve sprayed. Bare metal chasis. Amount of elbow grease that goes into is unreal. And i went down the Pearl base coat route as well. Not cheap at 25UKP a Ltr. love painting lots.. I m really good mechanic at heart, but my fist love is electronics. I do that for a living. SMD design. But i found that paint was a new hobby. Also i went into MIG and TIG welding also. All these skillz are of course, badly needed in restoration.

I am dagging to get my paws on somthin old. a old car.. perhaps.. nothing had tempted me so far as funds go. Owning a VW bug, i might move , when iam rich enuf to do a Type 2 (camper) but bring it into the 21st . But in keeping with hertitage of the old buses. Good electronics and engine tech.

Bikes are fun. and somthin bigger but older i would like next. Somthing extreme like an old T500 or even brittish..

The chineese route is an experiment for me..see if i can make a poor bike better. Power/paint/locktight..lol

satelliteone 09-23-2010 02:37 PM

nice honda.. 125.. gona need a bit of a tear down and some parts. but it it will be a great little project. such a simple bike to do. New seat, repaint decals.. lights.. long as the engine is fine..

You will enjoy the Chinabikes. Cheap, fun, worthy challenges, and some great support on this site.

Thanks for the compliment on the garage. I enjoy and pride myself on my modest mechanical ability. As far as cars go, I've restored cars from Caddies to Mustangs to a '32 Dodge and Fiats and everything in between. I like bikes better right now. Easier, but less profitable.

satelliteone 09-23-2010 06:07 PM

well ive started the head porting, Noticed quite a bit of sharp edges and port miss match, The exhaust, for instance, the copper gasket was larger than the port exit. a fair bit of alloy had to be taked back.

you can see here, the black line of the carbon.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4327.jpg

now ive got the copper gasket in and now the port opened up.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4338.jpg

the ideal match would be the exhaust flange next.

the valves had a little work, fluting the base on the exhaust valve much more. Also a rounded edge was done.

the inlet, seems quite good.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4335.jpg

still have a long way to go..

That's the best line I've heard in awhile.

What are you using for porting the head? Stones? Carbide burr? Sanding rolls? Nice work.

The photo of the MIG welder in the kitchen made me cry laughing!

satelliteone 09-24-2010 11:19 AM

weld iam using a mixture , flap wheels and stones a 4 grades of paper. Getting the shape first, then finishing. Supprising really, how bad a lot heads are un-efficient due the restrictions in the casting. Too many sharp edges, all reflections taken out and free flowing. Makes quite a bit of CFM improvement. The valves too are key, shrouding in the combustion chamber smoothed out helps with reflection. Mixing on top of the piston.

I read hell of a lot from old tuners in the states, some tips and then applied it. Have some doc`s here on me comp, regarding flowing heads. Makes great reading. eg. about atomisation of air and fuel thu a tube. The side walls cant be to smooth. The exhaust needs to be very smooth.

Air and fuel mixing is quite intresting stuff..lol..

Weldangrind 09-24-2010 11:38 AM

Like you, I've done quite a bit of reading about porting and polishing, but I've only done mild work so far. I'm interested in trying a kit I saw that had all of the necessary bits from Standard Abrasives: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SAI-260001/?rtype=10

From what I've read, it's ok to make the exhaust bowl and port mirror-smooth, but the intake needs some texture for proper atomization. I've also read that one has to be careful about how much material is removed on the intake side; the goal is to smooth out the short-side radius and blend the bowl (and pushrod area if equipped). It would sure be nice if we could quantify the results on these bikes, so we know if we're helping or not.

How are you sinking the valve into the head?

On the 200cc engine possibility, do you have much of a supply of 200cc OHC Hondas in the UK? I've read that they're kind of scarce.

satelliteone 09-30-2010 09:26 AM

just some updates,

Finished the engine, Porting done along with re-profile of the valves and a good grinding in. New head gasket, head torque to 23Ftlb with the special 5th head bolt at 15Ftlb. Valves set to 0.003in (3 thou).

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4356.jpg

Taken the emission control off, which is not needed in this country, All it does is injects fresh air into the exhaust gasses. Done by a 1 way valve. This reduduces exhaust Co2 by cooling. or adding extra air. Daft if u ask me. The carbs a set very lean in any case.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4362.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4363.jpg

and the inlet manifold

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4361.jpg

Also my new CDI for the GY/CG engines. This has no rev limiter, and advances the ignition timming better. about 5-8 deg more. Unlike the retarded original. who sole idea is to restrict the engine. Also fits the GY200/150 models.. The GY6 engines (overhead cam) has a different model CDI.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4360.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/IMGP4367.jpg

more updates soon.

satelliteone 09-30-2010 09:47 AM

yup, mirror finish on the exhaust or best as you can, this aids on the carbon built up to min. getting the port floors and roofs equal is the key, the air has to move down the tube at equal speed. I did an idea i read on the golf head. At the point to the inlet valve, changed one side past it sligtly bigger. Not much tho. The idea was to spin the air past the valve stem. Air pressure one side was greater than the other, making the air going in twist past the valve head. This swirl idea was to aid in the "laying" on top of the piston. better spead of the fuel and air mix.

The CFM increased of course, and the proof was on the dyno in the end. Plus the better fuel econ.

The valves seats. i asked a friend who owns a machine shop, to lathe the cast down by 0.5mm and knocked the seats back in. This makes the valves seat more flush in the chamber. Badly done in the chineese factorys by the look of it.

as too 200cc yup i do see then around. i rekon the bike breakers have a few floating around on the shelves.

I use a dremmel and all different grades of paper. flap wheels and drums.. Mind you loads more fiddly on a bike. The ports are a lot smaller.

Stones to start with shaping.

It appears you have the same forks, front hub, brake caliper, and brake rotor as I have on my Zongshen, Sierra 200GY-2. :) Did you rebuild the forks, or buy new ones?

Spud :)

satelliteone 10-08-2010 08:40 AM

Spud they are from a 200GY. Bought another set from ebay. Identical to the originals. I would say it s 200GY with a 125 motor.

Well. got the bike out side and on the 3rd turn of the engine it came to life. adjusted the tick over and pilot screw. sounded very sweet indeed.

I had to rush indoors for my riding gear.

and today managed to get 20 miles or so on the bike.

Suprising power. At first 5 felt quite tight, then it started to loosen up and it revs quite well. on the flat i got near 70mph. It really needs another gear. 6th would be great. Iam going to buy a 17th tooth sproket, that will make it feel like a bigger bike.

Pulling well on hills. quite impressed , porting and the Race CDi makes quite a difference. My neigbour came out and said it sound like a 600..lol nice bark to the exhaust. That was my socket bar down the exhaust and a quick wack down the end to loose the end plate baffle..lol

Over all.. not bad.. i rekon the bike will loosen up with age and pull even better.. and loved being back on two wheels.
