Aye. Lived in a few colds places over the years.

MICRider 12-23-2022 10:05 AM

We've had a cold snap here for the last week or so. It's gone down to -40 Celsius a few days with wind chills in the -50's. Not opening my natural gas bill until after Xmas! Lol
I often times question why I live here in the great white north, but then I remember it's because I can't afford to move 🤣

Thumper 12-23-2022 10:11 AM

There's no way I will be able to flex the manifold and airfilter plenum to get the carb back in. I can make ice cubes in the garage!

Bruces 12-23-2022 10:22 AM

The storm has been a bit of a bust up here ,supposed to get over a foot of snow last night but only ended up with six inches ,it’s currently around the freezing mark so reasonably mild, nothing to worry about or see here .

on the positive side, I don't have to worry about fitting the beer into the fridge along with the christmas turkey. I'm more worried that the beer will freeze!

TominMO 12-23-2022 11:31 AM

It's about 45 throughout my house. My kitchen is my refrigerator. Woke up to -5F outside. But I'm a wimp compared to summa you northern guys,

Got this from my buddy in Michigan this morning.

JerryHawk250 12-23-2022 11:57 AM

Just heard on the radio. Due to the extreme cold Walmart customers are urged to wear two pairs of pajamas. :lmao:

buzz 12-23-2022 12:24 PM

Yah cold here 3 degrees ,and 2 inches of snow. Will be letting the water pipes drip tonight, its 3 and only 11;30. Cold long night, too cold to be in the garage 48 degrees, hit it hard in the morning.

Thumper 12-23-2022 02:01 PM

The cold air rolled in AFTER waking up to ~5" of snow in KC area. Temps dropped more than 40 degrees in less than 1 hour. Less than 30 minutes in some places. Amazing weather system

I was really worried about the songbirds. Poor sweet little creatures. It was so cold on the forhead in seconds yesterday. I checked the feeders and not frozen over but no birds all day yesterday. But the sun is out, only light wind, and they are BACK! Cardinals, Finches, a Bluebird (!), Bluejay. Waiting for the Flickers.
Yay!

You know, this isn't a problem if you drink it.

TominMO 12-23-2022 02:18 PM

As a public service for this vital problem, I present this:

https://mancaveadvisor.com/what-temp...s-beer-freeze/

Thumper 12-23-2022 03:18 PM

The only beer that will freeze is Michelob ultra. The rest have enough carbs and alcohol to resist the freeze:lmao:

cheesy 12-23-2022 03:18 PM

We couldn't find Oberweis peppermint stick or egg nog ice cream for tomorrow*, so we opted for multiple flavors of Culver's frozen custard. We had no room in either freezer so we just put all of the custard in the screen room off the back of the house. Just as cold in there as it is outside.

*There's a story there for another time.

Man, that damn cold made it offshore. Lol. Didn't help we had 40 mph winds with 70 mph gusts, and 20+ foot seas.

What sort of boat were you in for that? And I’m assuming off of Georgia?

I'm offshore of Louisiana/Texas. On the Gunnison Platform. The winds have died down, but it's still cold out here. Hopefully, it'll be back into the 60s/70s soon. It never stays this cold out here for long.

I am in upstate ny, and have the blessing of a second floor apartment... its 6°F out and i dont have a single stitch of heat turned on... the downstairs neighbors must keep thier apartment about 80, as its 68 in here....LOL

My house is tiny (one bedroom) and was built in 1926. Crawlspace instead of basement, and no place to put a central heating inside unit. I rely on space heaters and layers of clothing. Last spring I insulated the attic with R-30. It had never had insulation before! Originally it had wood stoves in every room, with the kitchen one being for cooking as well.

I just took a look at a tracker thing. Yeah. I can see how the cold front hit you out there. I’m glad you weren’t in a boat. Those would have been the most awful conditions.

What are you doing that thing? That thing is huge. What’s the total population?

Not too far from me. Weather about the same. Here's what's goofy, expected temps by next Friday are in the forties....and rain.

We have a total POB of about 77. It's actually smaller than the platform I used to work on with I was with BP. (Mad Dog). That one had a max of 112 OF POB.

It was all good as of yesterday. Thanks. Had I lost power, I have backup plans/preps for that too.

cheesy 12-26-2022 09:24 AM

The cold has expanded the coyotes range a bit. There were two, possibly three, in the backyard of Cheesy Manor this morning. There is now one less squirrel. Buster was pissed that they were trespassing in his domain but the Yotes just flipped him off and left with their booty.

No license needed, season, or bag limits on those here. Everyone loves them until they lose Fido or Fluffy.

JerryHawk250 12-27-2022 11:32 AM

We finally thawed out. I took all three bikes out for a ride yesterday. The poor Hawk didn't know what was going on. :lmao: Today was the first day we didn't have freezing temperatures. The rest of this week wi be in the 70's so back in the saddle again for a little while. :D

I don't know about the bounty or season here in Illannoy. Mrs.C asked me to move the one bird feeder so the squirrels wouldn't congregate around it but I declined. I'd rather see one less squirrel than see someones' pet become a snack.
