Good things since Corona started?

We can get the bad news on TV. Have any good things happened, or has anybody done anything really nice to you?
-With the virus coming, we bought my in-laws, two states away, a smart phone and added it to out plan (they had only a flip phone before, and reception was spotty].
-Sending pics and other attachments to them via text has been a lot of fun. Its not easy to teach a 75 year old to use a smart phone, but we feel far more connected to them now. They can receive texts when phone reception is terrible.

I have really noticed more people outside. Walking, playing, riding bikes and such. Where we take our dog on walks, more parents and kids playing in their yards. I am on vacation on an undisclosed island today. I have seen more folks on the beach than ever! There are more people out and about than in the summer. I guess this is a good thing in that sence. I'm just going to keep doin what I do.

wheelbender6 03-21-2020 08:40 PM

Me too. I was riding my bicycle on the local multi-purpose paths and there were so many people out.

Good thing about living in the sticks is not many people around to avoid anyway. Mrs. 2LZ and I put in a good day hauling brush and burning today. She's loving the new little trailer. Just another day on the ridge.

Megadan 03-21-2020 11:07 PM

The roads are really empty, so it makes going for a ride a lot more relaxing. On top of that the police are also busy doing other things and avoiding the public as much as possible, so there are fewer of them out on the roads monitoring for traffic violations. Not that I would ever do anything illegal...

wheelbender6 03-22-2020 09:36 AM

A large group rented the house next to mine for the weekend. Some of them had parked in my driveway, and I wasn't very happy about it. They moved their cars without any bother.
-After observing out the window occasionally, we realized a wedding was taking place next door.
-We picked up a bottle of bubbly from the store and delivered it next door, offering congratulations to the bride and groom.
-We expected a sleepless night, with loud music. We were dead wrong. We hardly heard a peep out of them all night.

Something to look at

Just thought Mrs. 2LZ and I would share this pic from yesterday. Something different to look at besides your living room walls.

This is looking northeast toward South Lake Tahoe. The sun was setting to the west behind us shining on various trees and a big black cloud was heading at us from the east. It rained shortly thereafter.

Aparently there is some good to come of all this.

roundhouse 03-23-2020 09:33 AM

My dog is in hog heaven. about 9am I walk into the garage with him and he chases those crane flies and naps in the sun (When it is sunny) and pretty much only come in to eat until dark.

Took the hawk out yesterday, it is muddy as hell! I am so happy because I have to clean and lube the chain and clean up the bike. That should be a couple hours of piddling. It will keep me from just sitting still and smoking cigars which I admit are not good for me.

I put a new canopy up on the back porch. hoping for some comfortable spring evenings during the social distancing that we can spend out there. yesterday rearranged furniture in the family room for the MRS. up side is we're likely to get lots of things done around the house which we've been putting off. :)

Lucky you, i have a few places of my own where, mostly suburban somewhat big... There i could even do some small dirt track, mess with the motorcycle, etc.....
Yet the mandatory quarantine found in a flat....

wheelbender6 03-24-2020 10:27 PM

I have noticed that I am using less hair gel since the virus started. I can just let those cow licks stick up when working from home.

The price of oil is devastating to the Alberta economy, but gas in our area (which is notoriously the highest in Canada) has dropped to $0.92/litre, or about $2.60 US/gallon. It wasn't that long ago that we were near $2.00/litre, or $5.75 US/gallon. I admit I'm enjoying the new low fuel price.

I'm encouraged by the terrific examples of humanity in my area. There is a movement called "care mongering", which focuses on acts of kindness to others. Folks have been buying groceries for neighbours and just generally being good people.

Sport Rider 03-26-2020 09:47 AM

sad too. gas prices are terrific and begging for a road trip. quarentine has us all locked up.

roundhouse 03-26-2020 10:12 AM

Last night at 12am we went under stay at home quarantine. No more leisurely rides around the lake. Stuck at my house with all the yard work done. Me and the Mrs.'s cars are washed and waxed, are are all of the bikes. I am running out of stuff to do outside. I do not think I can make it 7 more days couped up inside!

Also I cannot just sit still either outside. I have to be doing something. Maybe i will plastidip my Hawk? Hmmmmmm

You could completely disassemble and put back together the hawk. lol Good time to pull that head off and port & deck the head. ;)

I've seen it $1.82 here.

Sport Rider 03-26-2020 12:06 PM

1.84 here last I saw, but I've been at home the past few days. no idea what is happening out there in the world near me. I guess I should go to the ABC store again since it's deemed an essential business here in NC. :D

JerryHawk250 03-26-2020 12:46 PM

Just got back from getting lunch and past one station that had $1.73.

2LZ 03-26-2020 01:00 PM

Mrs. 2LZ discovered that she likes two of her co-workers far more now that they work at home!

If you have your own garage and the motorcycle is there, then IT IS THE IDEAL moment to the disassemble it, check every single bolt re torque as needed. Port and deck the head....

My motorcycle are two block away and can't reach but i have the parts that i wanted to install but i didn't have the time and after 6 days of lock out i think they are laughing at me :D

I’ve seen $1.75 but usually around $1.99. The local Mobil, only game in town, is still at $2.29. I was pretty pleased that I got 93 for the Ural for $3 at the BP north of town yesterday.

Jerry I have come a long way since getting the hawk. I did take many of the bolts out and loctited them. The head thing? Probably out of my league. Sounds like a good idea for more power which I like. The skills and tools required are past me I fear.

roundhouse 03-26-2020 05:08 PM

$1.65 here. Premium which I use in my car and my FZ1 is $2.39.

LOVIN IT!

That would require an overdose of Nugenix Total T. I don't think my cardiologist, urologist, oncologist, or even my dentist, would approve.

wheelbender6 03-31-2020 11:39 AM

We got our tax refund today. Good timing.

I am going to smoke a little meat today.

I have different sausages.

But I like bacon wrapped stuff. Bacon wrapped sauasage and cheese stuffed jalapenos. Cream cheese and jalapeno stuffed pork loin, the other half just marinated. chicken, and i wrapped a cheap meat and cheese burrito in ground sausage and then wrapped it in bacon.

I always make some mystery food and see if my family figures out what it is.

Last time I tried fried catfish wrapped in pork and bacon. Not great.....

JerryHawk250 03-31-2020 11:47 AM

I just got hungry all of a sudden. Don't know why. :hmm: :lmao:

Sport Rider 03-31-2020 12:33 PM

I self-isolated on the new cafe for about 150 miles today!
