? about rain

Anybody have any electrical or guage cluster problem if it gets wet from a good rain? Will my blinkers and key ignition be OK? It's about to rain bigtime here at work and it's never been wet. Don't want to call the wife to pick me up if it don't start.

mine rides in the rain fine, but dont attempt to use the alarm until things dry out... it may seem fine but it probably will go crazy in a while...

AZ200cc 06-27-2007 10:37 PM

I left my bike out and it rained on it all night, No problems..Just a little rust where the paint was scratched.

TheBrainII 06-28-2007 08:19 AM

I got lucky and the storm missed us sot she's still dry. Thanks for the piece of mind anyway.

Jim, alarm? What alarm? I have to yell "HEY, STOP"....thats my alarm. I wouldn't mind having an alarm. Where does it hook up? I might keep an eye on ebay.

katoranger 06-28-2007 09:46 AM

I just found the steering lock on mine. I may use it if I have to park in risky places.

At work It is locked in a compound behind security fences with cameras.

You have a lifan gy5... you should have an alarm (shouldnt you???)... does your bike have a keychain with buttons on it... remote starter/alarm control... It is like ugly funny camo color

MOTOXtreme 06-28-2007 08:23 PM

No alarm on the American Lifan GY-5's. Some Lifan bikes have 'em, some don't. No GY-5 I've had in stock had any.

Maybe you got lucky Jim, They had an extra

Jim 06-28-2007 09:03 PM

Ahh, ok well the canadian lifans come stock with them.

MOTOXtreme 06-28-2007 09:56 PM

yup, thought about the canadian versions after the post.

my steering lock almost fell off, a bolt managed to work its way out of it. Although its a cheap POS lock anyway....

Anyone have a spare bolt laying around for a steering lock that i can borrow with no intent to return? :)

katoranger 06-29-2007 05:45 PM

I may have a bolt. PM me.

i know i'm diggin up an old thread but I was tightening the bar that holds the ignition/speedo/turn signals and I saw a little silver bar, is that the steering lock? if so how does it work?

Nathan

katoranger 07-30-2008 09:12 AM

The steering lock is mounting to the bottom of the lower triple clamp. It will have a place to insert your key.

Digging up old threads is how it works. It takes longer, but it cuts the overall number of new threads on old topics. Thanks for posting correctly.

If you see a key hole, try it with your key. You might have to turn the handle bar all the way to the left for the lock to engage. On my bike the lock was rubbing and could have caused a steering accident while riding. I used a pry bar to render the lock useless. :D

My flasher died after a big rain storm.or two...thats about it though.besides the rusting!

IronFist 07-30-2008 04:12 PM

I rode my 150 from Quebec last year, pouring rain for hours and even hail. Everytime I filled up I wondered if the bike would strand me, not starting up again. The bike never let me down, ever.

Kawazacky 07-30-2008 04:52 PM

My bike has been ridden in the rain, and I've always left it parked outside in the rain. I've never had a problem with my wiring.

knothead 07-30-2008 05:10 PM

The only trouble I have in the rain is due to water getting inside the speedo... it will read 100mph in fourth gear!

tigertamer 07-30-2008 10:27 PM

The only problem I had with rain was when the wet ignition cylinder freezes solid in the winter...better carry lock deicer if you ride like me, after november!
