Dragon Chopper (3/4 chopper)

Hey Bros,
I hope to start a place for people who got one of these bad ass motorcycles.Their is NO support at all.Save here.
To start on my second ride the chain tenchener ripped off.
something I think a pre check first ride could have stopped.
The dealer said they checked it all out  .
The limited adjustments allowed me to get rid of the tenchener
(after taking a link or two out)
Front tire is a 70/70/15 and the rear....205/40/14...imposible
to fined. So I did some MODs on the front fork brace and now have
a 120/70/15.Looks beefy and cool the ride is better to.The rear tire
as well as front had lumps in it so at 40 mph it would hop like mad.
I got a BFGoodrench Drag radial coming Wed.I hope this helps
(205/50/14) Ill post more latter
I got a 15T drive sprocket I think I would like to go right to 17T
I think I got a Lyfan clone  ...163FML so.....
I saw the chart for compatibility....so do I order a drive sprocket
from all of them and see what fits????
I ll add more latter got to go to work at 2am.

katoranger 09-16-2008 12:42 PM

I believe my bike has the same engine. The 17T sprocket you find in the dual sport parts section should work fine. It will give you some more top end speed.

I want to see some pics of the bike with the BFG installed.

Forklift352 09-21-2008 01:21 AM

Ok,
I got the rear tire on! It took 150+psi. to get it to beed up!
All lights are on and working.Rear fender is on and 90% done.
I just have to paint it. Will get picks up soon.Still looking for a 17t
drive sprocket.

tigertamer 09-21-2008 08:20 AM

That's what we like to hear from you, Brother!

Keep pluggin',
Tigertamer

Forklift352 09-24-2008 10:19 PM

Ok,
I got the rear fender painted, a black Dragon green 8)
My noligy hot wire should be here Thur the 25th
I got to take the rear wheel off and replace 4 rubber bushings
that I have no idea where to find.Annnnnnnnd Sat. Dad is comeing
over with camcorder.Pics. just aint enuf  .I want to get a youtube
on this thing.Still looking for 17t drive sprocket.Ill call Bruce again.

Forklift352 09-26-2008 01:53 AM

Got my Noligy Hot wire on.....seems to hit harder. Deff.throtel responce
improved. My Idle seems to still dance from 1500 to 1700.For the 50.00
Deff. a nice upgrade.

nabsport 09-28-2008 01:40 AM

 Hey its about freakin time!!Hey fofklift I also have one and i live here in florida.great to see someone else besides me got one.I ride mine daily and i too have had my fare share of issues.Nothing major just hardware mostly.but if you find a sproket you'll have to pass on the knowlege. As for recent mods i went up from a 108 to a 10 and now i'm at 12.5 on the secondary jet in the carb jets cost me $10 at a local KTM dealer.it does have more but i think it needs a bigger carb altogether i think its 30mm and a 32 would be a good upgrade.Least thats wat i hear. But hey if you have anymore questions pm me.

Forklift352 10-02-2008 12:07 AM

Well I changed the main jet from 96 to 105.I also took the little "clip"
from the second "notch" from the bottom all the way down to the last
"notch."Definitely runs and hits very nice.Pulls a little harder as well.
I definitely need to check my valves.

Glad to hear about your positive experience with the Nology HotWires! Well worth the $50 wasn't it?? BTW, where did you pick it up at?? Be sure to get the Nology Silver plug also. It works hand in hand with the HotWires.

Forklift352 10-02-2008 10:38 AM

Ill do it !!! But I just got a NGK plug 3 weeks ago.So Ill wait till info
comes in on the coil and get both.
So.......while taking my carb apart I saw what looked like "rustdust"
or maybe dirt.I cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner but 2 days latter
I took it apart and It was starting again.Looking at the air filter I see
that it is like "gawes."Very Very see through.I got a air filter comeing
But I cant help but wonder If the gas is rusting out my tank.
Here in Oregon it is law that moonshine must be added to the fuel
at 10%.So Im hopen that its just dirt and the air filter will fix.
If any body has info on this let me know.....how would you know your
tank is rusting????

CoolWhip2Go 10-02-2008 11:26 AM

Do you have a fuel filter on?? If not, install one, then clean out your carb really well. Try switching gas. Maybe when you filled up, the station just received their gas and it stirred up all the crud in the bottom of their tanks.

As for your air filter, take it out, clean it well, make sure it's dry, then re-oil it with K&N Oil or any other good quality air filter oil.

You can drain your tank into a gas container and then use a flashlight to try to look in your tank. I don't really see how you can "look" into the tank much to see if it's rusting, but you can try to do a visual with a strong flashlight. You won't be able to see the bottom of the tank though. :-(

I know that DennisKirk sells something that allows you to "coat" your tank to stop rust, etc.

Let me know how it goes.

Forklift352 10-02-2008 01:37 PM

First, I got the hot wire from Noligy
And yes I got a new fuel filter yesterday so will see about that.
Filter due today its not a K&N.But it looks kool.....we will see.
Thanks for the tip on spraying my filter. Is not a K&N but that might
have helped. And Ill drain tank after all fails and coat with that
Denies Krook stuff. :)
Well shoot I cant fined a flash light I could probably just use a lighter 8)

That's cool. Did you order it from Jeff Klein?? He's a good guy and will help you with any questions you might have.

As for coating your filter, only coat it if it's a gauge type of filter. I haven't heard of anyone coating a SS one, so I don't think that'll work if that's the type you got.

hey forklift i pm'd ya but anyway did you find out anything on the sprocket? Also you know what i didn't even adjust my needle(think i should?)

SpeedSouth 10-02-2008 02:41 PM

No pics yet? 8O

I thought for sure we'd get to drool over this by now!

Forklift352 10-02-2008 02:55 PM

I know I know I suck!! my technology for that sort of thing needs
to be upgraded. But soon Ill get it up!!
As for the needle adjustment It helped a lot...However so did a 105 main
jet.(I would like to see a DIY on the other jets!!! :P )Now as the main jet
gets bigger to the point of running to rich you would want to reverse that
mod(take clip up a notch or two)I didn't realise how lean I was running.
So 105 main jet and needle mod seem to work great,as well as a hot
wire!!!!The way I see it because of the hot wire I might bump to a
108

No, no front 17T 20mmx17mmx5mm sprocket yet I got to put that on hold.
Because of the Jack shaft I would have to get two 17T 17mmx14mmx?
The last time I ordered a sprocket from scooterparts4less(good inventory)
they don't have inner diameter tooth size so I got one that don't fit.
As soon as I get the jet thing and air filter Will focus on sprockets

Joining the 3/4 dragon chopper crowd

Hello,
Just wanted to jump in this conversation. I just got a 3/4 dragon chopper....or what ever name they sell them under. I just got mine street legal ! The plate came from Penn DOT, i just need it inspected yet.
I've done some mods too but nothing extrem to the engin. I've had to re-wire it twice now and I'm going for my third. I've noticed the wire connectors suck and come lose. So far my left turn signal has stopped working 3 times now because of the connection.
I will be taking your suggestion on the wheels. Did you buy them online or direct. Please let me know where and how !!!!!

Forklift352 10-03-2008 10:32 AM

Hey Bro,
Its good to hear from other people that have a Dragon Chopper!
I got mine about 2 mo. ago and it has been a wild ride!!!
First I have wired and rewired my rear lights somany times I couldent
give a #.Mostly because I would fined free or cheep lights and try
to put them on.That is a mistake......Spend the money and get good
lights.Iv poored over the net and local stores and gave some good
long thought about light configuration. You should to.If you need to
get it inspected your hight on thease things will make them "gig"
you on any and all things....starting with lights! The path I took was
Buying DOT approved lights and passing inspection. The DOT are
relitvly cheep but look like POO!Then I got the sweet lights(that are
3x brighter than the DOT  )But cost!
About Tires....You will fined none that fit  What I did was "hogged"
1/4 in.+/- deep at the middle of the lower fork brace and put on a Maxis
scooter/motorcycle tire (Dimz.120/70/15)($55.00)
On the rear a BFGoodrich Drag raidle(Dimz.205/50/14 :) )(130.00)
Before you bye the back tire stay tooned their is very inportant info
that you need to know but I have no time right now.
My lunch is over so when I get home Ill share more
Forklift

Forklift352 10-03-2008 02:46 PM

Ok,
As for the rear tire,it took 150+ psi.My dad is a truck mechanic
And when 75 psi didn't work then 100 all the way up to 130 dad
said much more could either blow the tire or worse the rim. I told
him it don't matter If I cant got this tire on it better blow something up  .(then I would get a 15 in.rear wheel and have a whole world
of options!!!Now with a car tire on the rear It rides a little weird :)
It will not "role" side to side as easily as a moto tire.It will want to
"shift"from its 3 points of contact.(left "edge",Mid flat area,right edge)
If now you have become proficient riding the chopper you will have
no problem. The nice thing about a car tire it corners like a cougar
(once you get it "rolled"up on the edge)It kind of feels"ghostly"
but it works very well and with both tires adds a more aggressive look
Now I have been told if I had gone wider it would have caused
more of an ark and looked more moto and performance would have
increased. So when (more like if)the tire wares out Ill try it.
Some other tire options would be Mickey Thomsons.
Also adding the rear car tire you will need to FAB.a fender!!!!
So far a list of mods/repairs
1.Jack shaft mod with no chain tenchener(will be upgrading soon)
2.ALL new lights (head light, turn, running ect....)
3.front/rear tire
4.FAB rear fender
5.rewire main 5 wire trunk from mid chopper to rear
6.new sealed bearings for front and rear wheels (BITCH)well the rear
was not so bad
7.4 new honda "koosh"bushings(check your rear sprocket if it wiggles
you should do this repair ASAP PM for part#
8.Theirs prob.more I'm forgetting but lets just say I know my Dragon
inside and out :P
Let us all try to add more info to this thread and limit PM
that way info is passed more freely

Forklift352 10-03-2008 11:34 PM

Yes,Jim that is a pic of the Dragon chopper in its infant stage

Jim 10-04-2008 12:39 AM

How are the triple clamps? With a steep rake like that I would be worried about them, being made out of Chinese metal and all...

What do they look like with that big X shaped plastic (or ?) piece off, the one near the swing arm pivot.

Forklift352 10-04-2008 12:57 AM

Swing arm pivot HahhaHAHAHHHAAHAHHAHA!
Sorry man I'm not laughing at you!
It is a hard tail so yes watch out for pot holes.
So far the fork is holding up fine. At some point I will prob.
upgrade.
The first mod I did was take off the plastic "X"
she looks a little naked but I got plans

Jim 10-04-2008 01:20 AM

Right sorry, chopper, hard tail as a feature, heh, my bad... You knew where I was talking about though ;)

I thought it might look better without the "X" :) You will have to get a picture up...

Look at www.photobucket.com to upload to, if you have a picture on the computer...

It's not the forks I was worried about, so much as the front side of the triple clamp, on my bike anyways it isn't all that thick, and it seems like there would be a lot more stress on it on this bike.

Forklift352 10-04-2008 08:17 AM

Well Believe it or not the head tube that the forks clamp to is
probably the "beefiest" part of the frame.(thank God)
The triple clamps are also purdy beefed.

Jim 10-04-2008 01:47 PM

Good to hear :)

I want to see it w/o that X cover (or whatever it is) as well. I think that would be the first thing I'd want to change. Looks aren't THAT important to me, but the X looks out of place, somewhat.

SgtScorpion 10-04-2008 10:50 PM

Mines kinda finished now

Okay, im kinda done for this year with my chopper. I might do some small stuff. No inspection yet, thats next weekend. but here are some pictures

Forklift352 10-04-2008 11:04 PM

Oh!! Rock on man!!
You and I have about the same mirrors.
were did you get the license plate bracket?
Its looken good. Thanks for the picks!!
I got a cable for my camara so soon Ill get a pic or 2 up.

SgtScorpion 10-04-2008 11:52 PM

Almost 90% of the extras are from ebay ! LMAO The bracket i got from Mobstyle choppers . com . They charge 50.00 including shipping and handling. But I after I got it I figured I could have made it. I got a chrome dress up kit from ebay, its plastic chrome, but it works great. The break light and turn signals are LED from ebay. The leds were an easy hook up - ebay too. The side tins i made myself, the paint is safety reflective gray . We are redoing the tins to be longer to cover more of the front area and back.

I rode it all day today, without inspection (dont tell on me ) and found I have to re adjust the chain again.

If you notice we dropped the forks down some in the tree to make it handle better. Looking for a slightly bigger front tire to equal it out. Did you notice all the original tires say "not for highway use"? I hope during inspection they dont notice it !

Did you change your front fender? If so what did you use ?

SpeedSouth 10-05-2008 03:41 PM

Thanks for the pics! :)

She looks good. I like that side cover better than the X.

What kind of ground clearance does it have? Did you have any trouble when riding it around? Curbs, speedbumps, ect?

SgtScorpion 10-05-2008 08:18 PM

I hated those "x's" i never even put them on. I have 3"of clearance. Lets just say you feel every bump in the road. Its fun though, I don't think I would ever take it over a major road though. I'm just going to use it as a suped up road legal scooter.[/quote]

Kreem tank sealer. This stops all rust then seals the tank completly. Kinda like making a smaller plastic tank inside of your mettal one.

Forklift352 10-06-2008 12:28 AM

Ya,
Thanx man I think Ill get some this week.I would recommend
All Dragon owners to take off the carb "bell" and look for a
big old pile of rust.I have a hunch we should all be getting the
fuel tanks lined

Forklift352 10-06-2008 07:41 AM

I was dicken around with my carb and took a test ride....my air/fuel
mix screw fell out :( !!Walked 1/2 mile both ways cant fined it.
All moto shops here are closed Mon. So Tue. I hope to get one orderd.
A good sight for some parts is Scooterparts4less.com.Stay away from
the carbon fiber air filter!!! It looks cool and I put it on with some
rubber plumbing fixtures.I had it set soooooo sweet as to get a ram
air afect.Alas it dont have enuf filter serface for 200cc so it bogs down. :(
The larg drive sprockets(20mm x 17mm x 4mm)are just that.
they dont list if its 4mm or 5mm.We need the 5mm.However I think
the 17mm x 14mm x ? will fit the jack shaft.I have some on order
should be here Wed.or so.Our back sprocket is 36t at some point I
will try a 34.But at this time Im trying 17t drive and 17t jack shaft.
I also have a K&N filter comeing will be here on the 7th.
I got a 4in. and is most likely to long for fitting underneath. But
again I plan to set it up for Ram air.

SgtScorpion 10-06-2008 12:28 PM

Air filter, chain, and exhaust

I want to keep my air filter....so far so good. But I want to give it the 90 degree turn. Scooterparts4less is out of stock. I noticed yesterday the nut for the chain tightener came off (the one where the two chains meet) I got a bottle of lock tighner so I will be going over all that.
Have you changed your exhaust ? I want to run mine to the side but I dont have a pipe bender.

Forklift352 10-06-2008 01:52 PM

Ya, I'm going to do that to.But I'M going to wait till I do some engine
work before I switch up my pipes.Orrrrrr I may try so shuva v-twin
in their.
