Repainting the YamaZong XT200GY-2
I have added a Clarke XT225 fuel tank to my YamaZong. I really enjoy the 3.5-gallon fuel capacity, and I also like the bike’s new appearance. :)
However, the color is not molded into some of the plastic on my Zong, and after 20,000 miles the color has faded. :( Therefore, I am going to order a Polisport Universal Motard Fender, and repaint the rest of my motorcycle. :) I can choose any color I wish for the new fender, so I am considering new color schemes for my YamaZong. Therefore, I decided to create a poll. Which of the following color schemes do you like best? :) Here is a retouched photo showing the bike repainted in the original KTM Orange. http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q.../KTMOrange.jpg As forum member Weldangrind stated in another thread, Yamaha Blue has a certain "poetic justice." ;) http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...YamahaBlue.jpg How do you like Honda Red? http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...ow034-Copy.jpg Finally, I can dress the entire motorcycle in basic black. http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...hBlackPlus.jpg Repainting my Zong will be a fun winter project. Please vote for the color you like best. :) Spud :) |
black
Like black the best
|
X2 on black; total Road Warrior look. Not feelin' the other colours.
|
The only other color would be the blue....But black get the vote.
<*Hums the A Team intro* :D |
I find myself becoming partial to urban camo.
http://www.simplylacrosse.com/images/urban-21125778.jpg Maybe not suitable for where you are, so how about desert? http://www.bayonet.net/clip_art/images/camo.jpg The whole thing: tank, plastic, and seat |
I think the orange looks the best  , but maybe it's because I like to make people think its a $7,000 KTM
|
I was just playing with the pics and posted my own idea on my WWW . since i still don't know how to post pics on here . Have a look and if someone wants to copy and post it , be my questhttp://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...ageID=61140095

I'd go with desert tan bed liner, I'd give it that military klr look.

I don't know about tan, but I was considering black Line-X bedliner for my front fender. :) http://www.line-x.com/ I talked to a Line-X dealer who had a display at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. The Line-X bedliner is very durable, and surprisingly light in weight. :) Spud :) |
I wish to thank everyone for his response. Please don't forget to vote in the poll. :)
Stealth Black is currently the favorite, followed by KTM Orange. http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...KnoxCanyon.jpg http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...xCanyon026.jpg Spud :) |
i like the black ..and not to change the post do you think that tank would fit my lifan gy5 thanks looks good
|
I also like the Desert Tan idea. After that black, but the Honda Red was also nice.
Byu the time you're done with the Zong, Spud only the right front foot peg will be original! :D |
if i read this right, your two top color choices are the same 2 that the bike comes with  face it spud its time to start on the engine we need some for hp's, big exhaust, big carb, high compression big bore stroker kits or maybe chopped yamazong 8O

I'm still partial to the desert tan myself, It'd be a real head turner. |
Orange is a no-brainer!! I do remember Vento Motors a few years back had the Zongshen Sierra re-badged as their own bike (like Qlink's old enduro was a re-branded Sierra, too) and it came in some sort of camo scheme, maybe a hunting-type of camo, and it didn't look too bad. I never really liked Qlink's colors for some reason, and feel that the orange is the best color scheme for any bike, anywhere, and since Zongshen offers their Sierra in orange, then it must be the way God intended it (you are a religious man, aren't you?)
|
What no one likes Yama(Zebra)Zong .LoL
|
I like the orange best out of your choices......but I've always been partial to Kawasaki green. I think that would look sweet on the zong.
|
I thank everyone for his feedback. :) ChromeDioxide has got me thinking about the Desert Tan. ;)

I doubt the Clarke XT225 fuel tank would fit your Lifan GY5, Jim. :( Getting an aftermarket fuel tank to fit around the engine, forks, handlebars, and seat is a difficult job. The Clarke XT225 tank fits the Zong only because the Zong's engine and frame are close copies of the Yamaha TW200 and XT225 motorcycles. ;) Spud :) |
...but orange is the fastest color.... Everyone knows that!!

http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...inportPeak.jpg The Kawasaki Green also harmonizes with the Idaho Mountains, but perhaps not as well as the Desert Tan. ;) http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...0-17-09059.jpg Of course, it's hard to go wrong with basic black. ;) http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...inportPeak.jpg Quote:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtcd1kSdlQY&NR=1 Krylon Fusion spray paint is available in Ultra Flat Camouflage Khaki, a pretty close match to Desert Tan. :) http://www.krylon.com/products/camou...on_technology/ http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...nCamoKhaki.jpg Perhaps it is time to experiment with some scrap plastic from the Zong fuel tank shroud? :D Spud :) |
The tan is the way to go. It's also original, not a copied color from another bike. Finally, touchups will be a breeze on a flat color, and no polishing required.

I don't like the flat black as much. It looks too much like primer you never got around to finishing. That said, my first Q was flat black, but with some decals and lettering and stuff to break it up and make it look nicer.
JMHO. :D |
Thanks for the input, Doc. :) Krylon Fusion spray paint is also available in Gloss Black and Satin Black; I am sure both these colors would look better than the Ultra Flat Black. ;)
Spud :) |
Maybe offset the 'flatness' with some nice decals, MAYBE combine a Zongshen and a Yamaha decal?

KTM Orange is still leading in the poll. ;) Spud :) |
I'd say the Tan 10:1. The black will look like primer. Look at your SpudShop pic of your bike in tan against the Idaho hills. Is that perfect or what?

Listen to the Force, Young Spud. Don't cave to the majority. We Inland Northwesterners have to stick together.

I'm still waiting for Weldangrind, AZ200cc, Cal25, DesertRider, et cetera, to comment on the Desert Tan; all those gentlemen have a very good eye for esthetic detail. :) Spud :) |
I have no esthetic ability. I voted orange Spud, but I think tan would be nice too. Black is too overdone.

Just wait for my lifanda color scheme. Its whatever came cheapest.

OK, dug up a photo of the Vento Mountrack in camo which was a rebadged Zongshen Sierra back in '06--the same time abouts that Qlink had their X-Ranger 200 which was also a rebadged Zong Sierra!

Hey Spud,
I didn't realize you were awaiting further input; too bad that Desert Tan wasn't available when I voted. It's certainly my favourite. I also agree that it would set your bike apart. My only recommendation is that you stick with the Ultra Flat or it will just look beige, like a K-car. One good thing about painting plastic is that you can always change it if you don't like it. |
