New shocks ordered for the Coolster

I have tried breaking in the stock shocks/springs but they are just WAY too stiff. My daughter weighs 60 lbs and she does not compress them at all. I ordered three new ones to try out.

Front

Rear

I will update this thread after they arrive.

I'd like to eventually get some nicer ones for the Rhino. I wonder how close these would be. The fronts look like they may be good but I think I have a longer rear shock. Guess I should measure...... ;-)
Let us know how you like them!

Darth Racer 03-24-2017 06:00 PM

Watching this thread closely. I would like a softer rear shock... the fronts on my Rhino don't seem that bad.

DuaneEddy 03-24-2017 11:59 PM

Which coolster does your daughter have? Anxious to hear your verdict

Mudflap 03-25-2017 07:44 AM

Last summer I bought a new rear shock from Eagle ATV parts for the ATA250D because the original one had started to leak. The spring rate is just about right and it works well. The shock on the Rhino is way too stiff. Looks to me like the ATA250D and the Rhino rear shocks are interchangeable although the ATA250D shock is about 1 cm shorter. Putting a ATA250D shock on the Rhino might be an easy way to get a better ride.

Its a 3150 DX2.

zackattack91 03-26-2017 10:35 AM

Let me know how they fit. The stock springs come real close to hitting the upper ball joint in the A arms, and these springs are 60mm wide. So they might touch and rub. I've been looking into these for a while, please keep us posted and let us know how they fit and feel.

You can get the specs for the front and rear shocks for the 3150dx-2 off of coolster.com .the fronts are 320mm(12.6") with 10mm eye bushings. And the rear is 300mm (12").

07PSDCREW 03-27-2017 12:36 PM

Odd, I Meashured mine and was and have been searching for 285mm shocks. Let us know how it goes.

zackattack91 03-27-2017 04:48 PM

Links for coolster 3150dx2 shocks specs

Here's the links to coolsters website. Front shocks http://coolster.com/FRONT-SUSPENSION...-JZB-AA005.htm and rear shocks http://coolster.com/REAR-SUSPENSION-...-JZB-BA005.htm 285mm might still work. Make sure they have 10mm eye bushings. But according to coolster it's 320mm eye to eye for the front and 300mm eye to eye for the rear. I put my rear shock on the softest setting and it's not that bad. But the front don't even budge and can't be adjusted.

Rear shock is in and installed. I had to use some washers as spacers but it fits just fine. It is softer when it is adjusted all the way down. I hope it breaks in a little more.

It looks like a nice upgrade. What size ATV is this Coolster? I'm a bit unfamiliar with there offerings.

TJEli 03-30-2017 10:47 AM

Its a full size 150cc.

Darth Racer 03-30-2017 08:17 PM

Thanks... curious if it was in my size range or not.

Shocks

I bought and installed a front shock on the rear of my Grandson's 125 Coolster. He weights about 45 pounds. The shock is 300mm eye to eye, and
was intended to replace the front shock. Very giving but works great for his weight.

Front shocks are installed. They fit perfectly (when the 10mm bushings are installed) and they are WAY better. I can compress them all the way by pushing the front end down. There is actually a little sag at static ride height. (Which is perfect). This is when them in their softest setting.

So is this a mandatory upgrade for all owners? Sure looks like a million. Hope it didn't cost it. I bet it is a night and day difference.

Looks great!

What other cool stuff are you going to add?

2LZ 04-03-2017 03:51 PM

Oh man.... I really like the looks of those and you say they actually work. I'm going to go and measure the Rhino.

zackattack91 04-03-2017 04:16 PM

10mm bushings

awesome. did the 10mm bushings come with the shocks or did you just reuse the stock ones? notice how close the spring is to the A-arm bushing, thats where i was worried they wouldnt fit. but since they fit on yours they should fit on mine.

Damn that looks nice. Not sure if this set would do it for the Rhino and a 200lb rider.. Might need one or two sizes up.

TJEli 04-08-2017 11:07 PM

Just a short update, I put the stock rear shock back on. This is a great setup. The stock rear shock works great with the new fronts. I had to reset the toe and camber but it rides great now.

Darth Racer 04-09-2017 08:14 AM

What was wrong with the new rear shock?

Nothing was "wrong" with it. It just did not work as well as the stock rear shock. It was a tad shorter as well.

I think I may be jumping on these as soon and Uncle's Sam and Jerry are paid here shortly.
I like how the spring rate and the gas is adjustable. It looks like one of the eyes may possibly be able to be lengthened also. That would be a bonus.
They may jack up snug enough to hold our girth. The Rhino rear shock is in desperate need also.

beyondhonesty 04-10-2017 12:18 PM

For the rhino 250, is there anyway to remove some of the fluid or change the weight of the stock fluid to gain some compliance?
I'm thinking to drill a hole and drain out the fluid...

zackattack91 04-11-2017 01:58 PM

Just find out the stock size of the rhino shocks.
The shocks come in 300mm 320mm 340mm. Measurements are eye to eye. 300 is 12 inch, 320 is like 12.6 inch and 340 is a little over 13 inch. From eye to eye. The shocks are all over eBay and Amazon.

Usually shocks are either disposable or rebuildable. It's not like a fork where you can drain fluid. That's why most shocks today are now gas charged. I just added some air to Q last weekend and it completely changed the attitude of the shock, including ride height.
Generally, with enough riding, they blow out and launch their fluid on their own.

Slaphappy 04-11-2017 07:44 PM

I'm hoping if a Rhino owner pulls the trigger they let us know how it goes. I guess I'm a follower not a leader.

Swapping bushings

2 Attachment(s)
So I got my new shocks. Same as the ones you got.
They come with 12mm bushings but they sent me 4 10mm bushings. How did you, or do you remove the 12mm ones and put the 10mm ones in? Help a coolster brother out. Thanks

Did you take the plastic off the front on purpose? Or was it missing? Mine was missing a seat.

losdario 03-15-2018 08:09 PM

Hey. I know this is an old post but just wondering how the shocks are holding up.

zackattack91 03-16-2018 12:14 PM

Doing fine. eBay special man. Pair of shocks for 80 bucks that actually move up and down. Can't beat that. I had to take the bushings out of the stock shocks though and swap them on the new ones, that was the only thing.

losdario 03-16-2018 02:09 PM

Cool. Thanks. I'm going to order a pair just wanted to make sure they held up. Thanks again.

zackattack91 03-16-2018 02:24 PM

Just make sure you order the right size. Check the specs on your ATV. What kind and model do you have?

I have a coolster 3150dx 2.

zackattack91 03-19-2018 08:58 AM

You need 320mm for the fronts and 300mm for the rear. I didn't change the rear but I might. It's still really stiff. If the company offers, have them put 10mm bushings in the eye holes, otherwise you'll have to pop out the ones on the stock shocks and swap them.
