SpudRider
2015 Zongshen RX3

5,000 miles on odometer recorded in July, 2015. Only normal maintenance was required.

rjmorel 09-15-2015 01:41 PM

RJ's 2015 RX3
5000 miles last month. Approx 6125 miles now. Nothing major. Adj valves once , changed oil 3X. Change tires to more dirt worthy style. Rode it to many enjoyable camping trips in the last 3 months .

Lee R 09-15-2015 01:52 PM

Awesome, added you guys to the list. Should be fun watching these bikes gather miles, which adv bikes do very well.

Glad so see they have been trouble free as well.

rjmorel 09-16-2015 03:14 AM

wow , I think Spudrider should get a prize for most miles I know of. The first to break 10,000 miles. Maybe some of the CSC bikes that have been on the Baja or western states trip rides may have more? Wonder how many Joe Berk is up to on his? rj

Huck369 09-22-2015 02:53 PM

I think Spud said he rolled over 10,000 miles last week...

SpudRider 09-22-2015 03:30 PM

Yes, without realizing it, I recorded 10,000 miles on the odometer some time last week, before it started to rain. :)

Nice work Spud.

I feel that once we start seeing >20k miles on these bikes without issue the reputation for RX3 will be looking really good. This could be a cult bike if it's reasonable reliable. It's certainly the best deal in adventure bikes at the moment.

SpudRider 09-23-2015 10:44 AM

The NC250 engine is beautifully designed, and very well manufactured. I'm sure it will be as reliable as the engine in my Zongshen ZS200GY-2. I have ridden that bike for 70,000 miles. :)

AZRider 09-28-2015 09:53 PM

I rolled over the 5,000 mile mark on my odometer today. I've had 3 warranty items that CSC promptly took care of - a warped front brake rotor, a faulty gear selector cable and a bad battery. All 3 replacement items were installed by me and are functioning well.

Lee R 09-30-2015 10:11 AM

AZ your on the list.

Looking good for reliablity so far. Mine is in shipping and arrives Monday. Hopefully I can squeeze a few thousand miles in before winter hits in northern NY.

Danimal 09-30-2015 08:19 PM

Lee...new RX3 owner here...1st in the Buckeye State:)
Mine shipped out on 9/29, and is heading to NE Ohio
Am curious what date yours actually shipped and you were given tracking?

Can't wait for mine. Gonna be fun exploring

Lee R 11-02-2015 07:39 PM

Anyone else break 5 or 10k miles this season?

I'm just coming up on 700 miles on mine but it's about to freeze here. Next season should see a good amount of miles as I'm taking the RX3 to Newfoundland with a pair of KLR owners as it's a better choice for the dirt that we'll ride than my Stelvio.

SpudRider 11-02-2015 09:32 PM

You can update me to 13,000 miles. :) However, it will snow here on Wednesday, so I won't be racking up many more miles until next spring. :ohno:

I'm looking forward to hearing about that!

Updated! Snow and even worse SALT! will be here soon too Spud and I'll be done for this year. Hoping to get a few more hundred in before then though! 60's for the high most of this week, I'll take it!

I'm looking forward to the trip! Many of my relatives are Canadian but not from Newfoundland. I've been through most of Quebec and Ottawa area as well as Vancouver Island so looking forward to seeing more of Canada!

Lee R 11-03-2015 04:33 AM

I added a few lower mileage numbers so feel free to add.

Huck369 11-03-2015 07:18 AM

I'm about to 4,000...I think about 3,800 last I looked...
I'll continue to ride mine all winter, but won;t be riding as much...mostly just my commute back and forth to work, won't be any long fun rides while it's cold....

detours 11-03-2015 10:58 AM

I'm over 3000 miles now

Lee R 11-04-2015 11:46 PM

Huck, Detours,

Any issues with either of yours?

My friend and I have none with ours. I'm really impressed. Most fun bike I've had in a while and the lowest power of them all go figure!

SpudRider 11-04-2015 11:59 PM

If you change the engine oil regularly, and keep the valves adjusted, I'm confident these engines will last 100,000 miles, and more. ;)

Spud change at 2k intervals? I actually change all mine at at 2500 or less. Wet clutches are hard on oil!

Did you even have any issues on your Sierra in all those miles?

SpudRider 11-05-2015 12:20 AM

Yes, I change my engine oil every time the odometer records an even thousand miles. In this manner I don't forget to change the engine oil every 2,000 miles. ;)

Zongshen builds excellent engines. I have only performed routine maintenance on my Zongshen ZS200GY-2, and it now has almost 70,000 miles on the odometer. :)

No real issues, needed a new front rotor when it was new, and had the glass fall out of the left mirror a couple months ago, CSC replaced both items quickly....the motor has been great, and has had no issues.

I've went to the 13 tooth front sprocket, as I ride some rougher routes often, and the better bottom range is much more useful in slow rocky routes.

Just minor issues for me, and all easily resolved. I'm having a great time on my RX3 and hardly ever ride my Vstrom any more.
  • I had the pulsating front brake issue, but CSC sent a new rotor under warranty.
  • The front brake reservoir lid leaked a little, so I tightened the screws.
  • The left rear turn signal plug came loose, so I plugged it back in.
  • The PCV filter assembly was installed upside down at the factory, so I turned it right side up.
  • I found a small drip from a radiator hose, so I tightened the hose clamp.
  • The radiators weren't completely filled at the factory, so I topped them off.

Except for the brake rotor, these are all minor assembly line issues. And the brake rotor was more annoying than anything. A series of hard stops in a parking lot nearly fixed the pulsing anyway. Mechanically, the bike is sound and a high quality design.

The loose bolts were only on a few maintenance areas. If anything, the frame and engine bolts were over tightened at the factory.

SpudRider 11-05-2015 01:47 PM

The naysayers don't realize that all Chinese motorcycles are not created equal. ;) Zongshen has had superior quality control for many years, and has a serious commitment to improve it even further. :) My 2006 Zongshen ZS200GY-2 (Sierra) was manufactured to a higher standard than many other Chinese bikes of that time. In the nine years since then, Zongshen has only continued to improve quality control.

Now that we have reached the end of the year, any more people hit some milestones?

Danimal I think I remember you saying 4K on yours?

rjmorel 12-29-2015 08:49 PM

I would think Joe Berk would be approaching 10,000 if not more???? rj

yeah, just over 4300 now. Freaking more normal weather shit coming may slow that progress :grr:

Lee R 03-18-2016 06:18 PM

anyone else cross the 2500/5000 mark recently? I think we'll have a few more over 10k and 20k this year!

jbfla 03-18-2016 06:23 PM

3,500 miles since Dec.

Bike is grounded until engine problem is solved...guess my dreams of catching up to Spud will have to wait...

I'm sorry to hear of your engine problems, JB. Please do keep us updated.

Huck369 03-22-2016 07:16 AM

Mine is back on the road after a slight hiccup, at 4,785 miles I had it fail to start for me at work last Tuesday (3/15/16..the day after my birthday :( ) had to haul it home.

After several phone calls with Gerry of CSC, and a few hours of trouble shooting, determined it to be a sticking injector, which Gerry shipped a new injector right out too me.

I received it yesterday, so I popped it in last night and she fired right up, and I'm ridding it today...She's already got me to work this morning, so hoping she is all fixed now, it will take a few days of riding her to make me more sure she's truly fixed, but I'm pretty sure she is. :)

Another satisfied Customer with CSC's Costumer Service!

SpudRider 03-22-2016 07:29 AM

Thanks for informing us of the problem, and the superb customer service, Huck. :)
