So Cal ride in May???
Not a ton of us here from California, but thanks to CSC and SSR that is changing. If anyone is interested, May would be a good time to ride from Devore, CA up the Cajon Pass via old National Trails Highway (Route 66) and the old Cajon Pass Wagon Trail (Forest Road 3N45). The ride would include an unavoidable but not unpleasant 2 mile portion of the I15. It's a pretty quick 40 mile ride (round trip), more than half the route is paved. When I was commuting to LA I used to take this route when traffic was bad, and its a nice ride. This video is a bit long, but it shows the portion that is now 3N45.

I know Joe Berk used to organize So. Cal. CSC rides for both the TT250 and RX3 before he retired from there, but surely someone there can get the word out to their customers? Member Essayons with a TT250 is in Fontana so there would be two of you for sure, but I know there are more now that the word is out. I think you might be one of the only Californians, at least So. Californians with a XF250 :lmao:

Culcune you might be right, I feel so alone! The xf250 owners who join here usually don't stick around long. I might have to go to AZ and check out that Wickenburg ride do you guys do it again.
Anyways, Joe Berk seems like a cool dude but he banned non CSC bikes from his rides if I remember correctly:cry:. |
If you ever make it up to Nor Cal......lemme know!

I'm in! I'm available the weekend of the 15th and 16th in May. What size group were you thinking? I can post it on CSC owners group in Meetup if you like.

1) Are all brands of bikes welcomed? 2) Meeting time? Start time? Turn around point? Trip duration? 3) Can we make the meeting location the Mc Donalds west of the I-15 and Sierra Avenue? It will be easier to find for those that aren't from the area. 4) Can we make the turn around point the intersection of Mariposa Road and Ranchero Road? At the location there is a Starbucks, Circle K, Fat Burger, Buffalo's Express, Chronic Tacos, Krispy Crunchy Chicken and a 76 gas station. 5) Are all skill levels welcomed? Meet here: https://goo.gl/maps/VUyofXmXhzq5RjZe9 Turn around point here: https://goo.gl/maps/WnP1CW1Y3DFF66Kz7 The trip as mapped is 20.7 miles each way. Here is the route mapped out: https://goo.gl/maps/DFQFgjKEBp7WjRnX6 |
In the grand scheme of things, you guys aren't even that far from the CSC headquarters, and I am mentioning that to put it into perspective for riders who own CSC bikes and bought them directly from the store but don't necessarily live close by the store.
2LZ--you know you want to take a trip down to So. Cal....you know you do! |

Thanks for mapping and marking Essayons! I'm super flexible so let me know what you think about the info below.
1) Are all brands of bikes welcomed? Yes! 2) Meeting time? Start time? Turn around point? Trip duration? Meet: May 15, 2021 @ 8:30 AM Ride: 9:00 AM Trip Duration: Approximately 2.5 Hours, but there is potential to extend it a bit if riders want to avoid the highway portion. I will do a pre-ride and check out some other forest road possibilities. Diverting around the highway could add a half hour of forest road in each direction. 3) Can we make the meeting location the Mc Donalds west of the I-15 and Sierra Avenue? It will be easier to find for those that aren't from the area. That would be perfect 4) Can we make the turn around point the intersection of Mariposa Road and Ranchero Road? At the location there is a Starbucks, Circle K, Fat Burger, Buffalo's Express, Chronic Tacos, Krispy Crunchy Chicken and a 76 gas station. Also a great idea 5) Are all skill levels welcomed? Absolutely! I consider myself a beginner and this is a pretty mellow ride. Meet here: https://goo.gl/maps/VUyofXmXhzq5RjZe9 Turn around point here: https://goo.gl/maps/WnP1CW1Y3DFF66Kz7 The trip as mapped is 20.7 miles each way. Here is the route mapped out: https://goo.gl/maps/DFQFgjKEBp7WjRnX6[/QUOTE] |
Looks good to me. I will post it today.
Here's a slight route deviation to avoid I-15. I've seen minivans and honda civics on this route. Alternate route: https://goo.gl/maps/yG1MGKKxRtybGz4EA |

The route you are talking about will add 11.6 miles. The route I'm talking about is as follows: From US 66 you turn left onto Swarthout Canyon Road. Swarthout Canyon Road will take you to Lone Pine Canyon Road. At Lone Pine Road you can turn right towards the 138 or turn left towards Wrightwood. Lone Pine Canyon Road ends where it meets CA 138. Turning left towards Wrightwood will add 11.6 miles to the route. Hope that cleared up things a little. |

I posted on facebook. Two guys said they would go and two more said maybe. That makes it 4 confirmed and two maybes. I will remind everyone about the ride two weeks prior and see if we have more takers. I plan on taking pictures and video of the trip. Then I'll see about putting together a youtube video or something. |
Is this related to your planned route? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZU7Mnx-I3g

Yes it is. We will be tourist for the day. :D The Summit Inn was also known for serving an omelet made from one ostrich egg. One ostrich egg equals about 24 chicken eggs. Ate there a few times but never had the ostrich omelet. Sad to see landmarks disappear like that. |
Are you guys still on for Saturday?
|
Yes, the ride is still on. So far it's three of us from this forum. From facebook there is 1 confirmed and 1 maybe. Still open to anyone wanting to surprise us Saturday morning.
|
Weather forecast for this Saturday looks great. I drove the upper half of the route last week (Summit Inn to the 138) without any surprises.

Here's the ride report:
Attendees = 2 (dh & Essayons) Distance traveled = 51.9 miles / 83.5 kilometers Starting point elevation = 2,005 feet / 611.1 meters (above sea level) Highest elevation reached = 6,375 feet / 1,943.1 meters (above sea level) Fastest recorded travel speed = 66 mph / 106.2 kph Trip duration = 3.5 hours |
Thanks for documenting the ride report Essayons. This was an outstanding ride with some great variety in terrain and views from mountains to high desert. I had the chance to ride some great double track I never knew existed. For those who weren't able to make it, keep an eye out for part 2.
|
So when is the next ride? Will it be at the same location? If not, I would strongly suggest Bedford Motorway that stretches in through the Cleveland National Forest. The entrance to the fire road/ trail is in Corona right by the 15/91 freeway intersection. Haven’t personally rode but seen videos of jeeps relatively stock take those trails... so hopefully our Chondas won’t let us down.
