need to read the articles. first- made in all new plant/all new tech- bike designed by ducati guy.
2nd. wouldnt b showing/testing round milwaukee if not coming to us. 3rd-price not released but reporter informed by re exec would b 4 to 5k range. you can bet it will be as high as they can get but market is used klr crowd. 30" saddle makes it a no brainer. klr's too damned tall for a lot of peeps.engine design is clean sheet according to article. have to see about that. other thing is they want to go up against chinese mfg's for piece of world market. we shall see but so far so good.. |
I'm on the waiting list.

24 hp at 400lbs? Not so much :hmm: Must be the cool factor, does look neat.
|
Black, on youtube are a bunch of RE vids of their bike trips up into the himalayas . Speed is not an issue, being able to grunt torque the rig through really rough terrain at low speed IS, sooo the engine is reportedly designed and built with that goal in mind.

Seer.. I see, and have heard of the infamous tank like qualities of the R.E.. Personally I can't see the benefits of a 400lb bike on off road terrain. Seems more of a liability to haul and handle all that mass on x terrain.
I am a newb and haven't have some of the experience. I realize a lot can be said for "soaking up the bumps" |
What about the RX-3
Quote:
What is it's horsepower rating? So does the Himalaya have more or less pounds per horsepower? :hmm: |
in one of the review youtubes, a guy compares it to the rx3 english version (honley or something) decides there's no issue the re is much better. also, there is a factory documentary on the development of the himalayan, the engine's innards look Massive!
I am liking this thing more and more . one vid shows a guy trying tomuscle one around in the dirt/rock at very high altitude lol he can hardly stand up himself, but he picks one up.:) you are right, tho, black 400 is a lot off road, but not for an adv bike. even the small beemers are much more and this bike is built STRONG. |
ĹENGINE: NC250
MAXIMUM POWER: 24.8 hp MAXIMUM TORQUE: 16.6 ft. lbs PISTON SWEPT VOLUME: 250cc LENGTH/WIDTH/HEIGHT: 83.8" x 34.2" x 49.6". WHEELBASE: 55.1". FUEL CAPACITY: 4.2 Gallons. WEIGHT: 385 lbs. MAXIMUM LOAD: 330 lbs. MAXIMUM SPEED: 84 mph. COMPRESSION RATIO: 11.5:1 rx3 specs above So the advantage must lie in the torque produced from the 383cc (something) motor |
I keep seeing this on my Twitter feed, and I really like the look of it. . .
|
I'm a Royal Enfield owner for about 2 years now and I LOVE my bike.
I'd like a chance to ride the 400 sometime. |

I don't think I'll be tradign my DRZ anytime soon LOL.

Comparing apples to apples?
CSC RX-3------------------------------R.E. Himalaya
Weight. 385 lbs.-----------------401 lbs. H.P. 24.8.--------------------24.5 Torque. 16.6 ft.lbs.-------------24 ft.lbs. Lbs./H.P. 15.5--------------------16.3 So what do you want? More horsepower or more torque? :hmm: Are you looking for top speed or off-road ability? :yay: |
For an off road bike its ALL about torque.

Selling price in India
Quote:
I was informed by Royal Enfield that the bike will be on display at the Long Beach International Mototcycle Show next month. Hope to view and try it on for size! |
would love to be able to get these in a crate like the hawks can be bought. save a few bucks, assemble myself. Price will be key.
|
Oh, these are much too special. They have to be assembled, adjusted calibrated etc,etc by the most highly trained north American specialists....Add on a couple thousand.
|
Not ticking my box. Awesome bike but I know they are going to go crazy on the price because of the r.e. prominence. Hawks, Storms and tt's will already climb telephone poles, will these 400cc r.e. do traffic at 24 hp? We ll see
|
16 lbs. makes that much difference in performance?
[QUOTE=1cylinderwonder;226932
CSC RX-3------------------R.E. Himalayan Weight. 385 lbs.-----------------401 lbs. H.P. 24.8.--------------------24.5 Torque. 16.6 ft.lbs.-------------24 ft.lbs. Lbs./H.P. 15.5--------------------16.3 [/QUOTE] 16 lbs. of extra weight, but 7 ft.lbs. more torque! |
Sounds like an upgrade compared to most China bikes

Thank the Good Lord I don't have any more room in my garage. ;-)

Here's your answer 2lz
|
I think 2LZ is lying. I did lose a race with my 1981 Honda XL185S to top speed against a Yamaha CT175 on pavement by a bike length. I think it was that low front fender that gave him the edge. We were going at it up to about 63 MPH because we couldn't go faster.
